  1. When the coolant level in the expansion tank is OK, check the sensor in the tank and/or the wiring.
  2. I suggest to disconnect all the after market stuff and than start the trouble shooting. You have to start with a car in driving condition before installing gadgets, it is much easier to approach troubles afterwards.
  3. geoff Don't forget the Europe DVD and the PCM programed for Europe frequency's, and enjoy your stay.
  4. geoff EU Cayenne ( DVD nav. ) need the latest update to have TMC, 987 - 997 idem, but the update is different.
  5. 987 engine compartment fan: active.>70° C stop <55°C ( engine comp. temp. ) active.>102°C stop <99°C ( coolant temp. ) the fan is also active when the intake air ( ambient ) temp. is elevate ( no values available ). All from the book.
  6. You can do it by yourself, if you are handy, the manual and the electric operated as well. The dealer have to program the hitch in the car system.
  7. The motor is a servo motor ( with self control ), probably the motor is faulty. You need a PIWIS tester to activate and check.
  8. Not anyone will start with this, too much money and time. Just my opinion.
  9. With the key removed ( the lock makes a click sound ) all the power is shut off, if you leave the key in the ignition lock, there is power on the contact points in the lock next to the points" ignition on". After several start procedures during the years, there are residues of metal coming from the contact points on the " track" of the rotation disc inside the lock, which is always the same, and conduct a small amount of power just sufficient to disturb the reading.
  10. Swap conventional head lights with litronics will work on European cars, except the electronic leveling, you need sensors and wiring for that item, head light washer system is needed also ( i don't no in the US. )
  11. The radio is a part of the PCM and the radio antenna is on the back side near the navigation antenna. Remove both side panels ( what you have done already ) on the right side, behind the side panel is a small bolt ( 8 mm key ) you have to remove this first. The PCM fixation is the same as the 996 series, 4 locks in total, 1 lock toward the top and 1 lock toward the bottom from both sides of the PCM left and right just behind the front plate, turn the locks 90° with an Allen key ( 5 mm ). You can slide out the PCM now.
  12. You need fault codes, there are several causes possible, misfires are one of them.
  13. PSM will go out while driving, the system have got a power fail, fault code stay in the memory. Is the car already in the original condition? All systems OK? You can visit the dealer to clear the fault codes or you can buy a diagnostic tool to do it yourself.
  14. 987 and 997 use complete different systems as 986 and 996 for lights front and rear, radiator fans, brake lights etc. All this stuff comes via control boxes, most of the interventions in the electric systems are no longer DIY and you need PIWIS also to change settings, transform the car as it was and try again. I hope for you that all the control boxes are still intact.
  15. Alternator failure i guess, check the voltage on the battery while the engine is idling, between 13.80 V and 14.50 V is acceptable.
  16. This occurs occasionally rather uncommon, have you tried with a new belt already?
  17. I don't have electric schematics here, but is there no relays between the start motor solenoid and the ignition switch on a US version? Burned points give the same symptoms, a second option is a delay in the transmitter recognizing system, you can try with the spare remote/key, if you have the same result both remotes/keys ( sender ) are OK. The receiver pass test is a dealer job. Try pk2 suggestion first. Success.
  18. I mean ROW C instead of 6, check if all the other systems in the car will work and rapport back. You can check all the fuses meanwhile.
  19. Indicators front are a part of the front control box, i don't no what is happen but take a look to Row 6 Fuse 3.
  20. The electric part of the switch is a common problem, you can separate this part from the lock by removing both screws on the back side after disconnecting the electric connector.
  21. The most easy way is build out the complete radiator and than remove the fan.
  22. Depends on the dealer, some hold the oil apart for refilling others refill with fresh oil. If the dealer do only RMS and not the intermediate shaft seal the oil can stay in the engine.
  23. I should go for a 911 3.2 liter, as young as possible, with the newer gearbox ( depends on your situation ). Easy for DIY, no electronics except the L-jetronic management all the rest is conventional, interesting in some country's. More than reliable car in generally spoken and worth the money. Trey to get one in original condition ( all non original upgrades so to speak, reduce the value of the car and so the price in Europe ) and in good shape from California for example consurns the climate - humidity, results in a minimum on rust.
  24. Yes, pry carefully and the glass comes out. The light is mounted in the bottom part of the rear shell.
