  1. Don't worry White, it only happens on 996 PSE.
  2. Bosh and Siemens DME's refuse to rev the engine with the brake switch released.
  3. I should check the ignition switch anyway.
  4. There is a procedure to do with PIWIS after installing the struts, bleeding and filling the system and adjusting the ride height. Bleeding and filling can be done without PIWIS IMHO, but to adjust the height without the tester is not possible, it is in fact the same process as replacing the control unit. Replacing the struts can be done on a lift if possible.
  5. Air suspension struts are constructed as a complete piece, i should say more, depending the mileage of the car it is recommended to replace the struts on the same axle. Factory extended warranty covers the struts over here. The cause is probably weak spots in the metal or damage in some cases, i have seen 14 month old struts with this damage. It is definitely not a common issue.
  6. If you mean that the metal cover just below the air bellows is blowing in pieces, yes!
  7. 97boxsterred If your ( Porsche ? ) dealer is not able to diagnose the problem by lack of experience on this particular engine, try a Volkswagen dealer they known the engine better, it's a Volkswagen engine after all, it can safe you money, time and offence.
  8. There is probably too much oil in the engine, the oil level should stay on the upper mark ( 4 segment ). You can drain approx. 1 quart, check the level, fill up till upper mark, all with cold engine and on a flat floor.
  9. The car should not overrun 1000 RPM, check if the throttle cable tension is not too hard, he needs a little "play".
  10. Try www.durametric.com. the boys here on this forum are mad about it. PIWIS is too expansive and will be replaced at the end of 2008 by a newer tool ( laptop ).
  11. Yes, no problem. Better than elsewhere.
  12. Remove all the bolds from the sub frame to the car bottom except the two most rear ones ( only release ), the sub frame will comes down on the front and you can use the room to remove the sway bar.
  13. I wish you a lot of success in your new challenge, one comes and an other go's, i go in retirement at 01/01/2009 after a PAG carrier started in 1968. I shall miss it that's for sure already. Regards RFM
  14. On 996 with manual transmission it's much easier to work with removed gear box to get access, faster and better overview.
  15. Remove the right side trim ( carped and leather ), grab the connector and turn 90° to the left, pull out the connector, separate the connector.
  16. Let the connectors stay in place on the coils, no need to remove to pull out the coils ( V6 ), much easier.
  17. The white residue on the coil is oxidation, look for water infiltration and replace the coil.
  18. A fault code check is recommended, could be a faulty front height sensor for instance.
  19. The 996 number piece is a little larger and fits without problems.
  20. PSE is always open ( loud ), the system needs vacuum to close ( quiet )
  21. minny Runs the car too hot or too cold? Just a question.
  22. The additional air is the cause of the difference in sound, you can activate the air pump with the engine running without problems. The vacuum system leak test can be performed as Kim mentioned.
  23. I should check the R134a quantity and pressures in the system to start with.
  24. Let check the battery and the electrical load circuit also.
