  1. The mileage is registered in the DME, visible on a vehicle analysis done by PIWIS tester.
  2. You have to remove the throttle body and the connected intake pipe to have access to the starter.
  3. Make a flat open 22 mm key shorter.
  4. The rust is inside the booster, there is water infiltration via the flange seam of the booster.
  5. It is indeed the switch/hook combination, you can stick a small rubber on the hook to have more pressure, or replace the switch.
  6. If the car is equipped with memory seats, it is possible. Remove the driver seat and check the wiring from the control box to the carpet ( especially in the environment of the seat mechanism ) Unfortunately i cant remember the wire colors.
  7. Just pull the lamp holder out of the trim and replace the lamp.
  8. The red clip is useful on the 996 cabrio, it become possible to rise the both rear-side windows with the clip installed. I cant see directly any advantage on a 986.
  9. Porsche factory fill is Mobil 1 0W - 40. A lot of owners use Mobil 1 5W - 50 in turbo's, GT 3 and Cayenne GTS come alternative over here.
  10. The black/white valve ( on the right ) and the tube ( on the left ) are connected to the rubber pieces which you have removed, and not with each other IMHO, take a good look before if it make sense. In this case your problem is still there.
  11. Steam cleaning is not recommended, with water is possible if you use compressed air after cleaning to dry out the electric connectors. There is no distributor present on a 996 engine.
  12. As far as i know, they don't have it.
  13. Battery: between + and - Alternator: between exit ( big cable ) and ground All with engine running at idle.
  14. Look how much volt the battery received with the engine running, do the same directly on the exit of the alternator ( difficult but possible ). If the difference is more than one volt, replace the cable alternator-starting motor-right side of the gearbox. There is nothing visible but the cable have too much transition resistance in the welding points under some conditions.
  15. Check or change the pump and DME relay and try again.
  16. After reading the symptoms you describes, the leaking cylinders are not the cause but the result of a clutch mechanism failure. Let it check by a mechanic before you blow up the new cylinders again.
  17. MY 2008 have still the PCM 2.1 unit in Europe IMHO. MY 2009 have PCM 3.0 navigation which is hard disc drive, there is no longer a DVD drive underneath the passenger seat. The later up dates comes as a code with I-pass and will be programed with the PIWIS tester. I cant find a explanation for the 3.0 disc or the problem.
  18. Use the 996 brake damper/stickers on the back of the brake pads.
  19. Looks like the sensor is blocked between the black plastic duct and the radiator, that's way the outside temp. looks higher than normal. Most recommended procedure is to remove the bumper and the duct to inspect the sensor/wiring for locking ( stuck ) and damage.
  20. The top part is also the lock for the strut/hub combination. Lift the front of the car up with a jack and remove the wheel. If the hub, especially with the wheel still in place, is hanging the combination is too heavy and both holes in the strut and in the hub are not in line, the top part of the link will block. Lift a little the whole combination by grabbing the brake rotor with your hand and pull or push out the link. For this reason it is not possible ( evident ) to remove the link with the car standing on the floor.

  22. Fly wheel ( not 100% sure ) complete clutch and gearbox are different. 997 is installed with a disc thickness compensation pressure plate and a Japanese Aisin gearbox.
  23. Porsche return less fuel system is not so return less as you think, the return is build in the pump unit, just after the filter. The filter have the same quantity of fuel to make clean as the earlier versions, indirect fuel systems have need on a return, the fuel pressure is controlled by the return system and not by the supply.
