  1. Phillip, There are different possibilities: 1/ buy a cigarette lighter adaptor, two pieces of electric wire ( 1.5-2.00mm diameter and 1m long ) solder the wires, one on the + and one on the - of the adaptor, two crocodile clips ( smaller than the classic jumper cable ones, but big enough to grab the battery + and - ) and solder them on the opposite side of the wires, take a spare battery in place in front of the passenger seat, install the self made tool, close and open the doors with the REMOTE, pull the trunk handle. 2/ use a battery maintainer as Loren suggest and do the same with the REMOTE as mentioned above. 3/ remove the trim with the handles and disconnect the electric lock motor, pull the handle. Hope its helps.
  2. Is the check engine warning on? Are there fault codes in the memory? Please do a check first and report back, there are different causes, with and without fault codes stored.
  3. I think he means the temp.sensor ( eng.comp. ventilation ) Loren.
  4. Leaking washer water ( or after using the washer/wipers ) can give this kind of smell, depends on the chemical composition of the additive, use only approved fluid for cars with airco.
  5. PIWIS updates are on line via Porsche, there is a new diagnostic tool in the pipe line which replaces the actual PIWIS in 2009.
  6. A specific diagnostic tool is needed to reset the service reminder ( PIWIS or similar )
  7. Changing the starter motor takes approx. 1.30 hour.
  8. No engine removing is not necessary, just take off the intake manifold. Perhaps it is a opportunity to replace the water tubes in this area by light alloy ones if you have still the stock fragile plastic ones.
  9. Looks like some trouble with the torque converter, oil pump bearing or the pump itself. These parts can be repaired separately in a specialised automatic transmission work shop, let it check ASAP without driving the car ( flat bed truck needed )
  10. The starter motor is located under the intake manifold, on the rear side, between both cylinder banks ( in the V ).
  11. Good chance that the relay is fried.
  12. You can pull the panel out, after removing two small allen bolds in the deepest part of the central armrest.
  13. Phillip, Use a spare battery and jumper cables, you can easily blowing up control boxes with boosters.
  14. If the car is a ROW Belgium type, look in the relay holder, under the dash above the fuse holder, check the relays for proper fitting or malfunctioning. You can "feel" the relay clicking if you hold your hand on it while the indicator is activated. A lot of Belgian cars have also a tracing system ( cj 2 ) or a anti carjack system ( cj 1 ) installed ( mandatory on omnium theft insurance ) which are also a source of problems after the years and they are connected to the indicators as well.
  15. Maybe your are right SPIRO, anyway, it looks difficult to install the showed pads into the announced cars.
  16. Since the ticking occurs only with warm engine, the character in front of the W ( 0W or 15W ) means only the viscosity in cold condition, i would try 5W - 50 instead of 15W - 50 for quicker lubrication on cold start up.
  17. If you use the key carefully and together with the proper torque specifications ( not daily and with pneumatic tools ) no problem may occur. Misuse is mostly the cause of the failure.
  18. Together with the second spark plug change = ROW 80.000 Km.
  19. Let check the coil connector for proper fitting, the locking lip will break off as well, and the connector comes loose spontaneously.
  20. Washer fluid diluted with water is OK, but the product RAIN X ( little yellow bottle ) is NOT Porsche approved for windscreen and/or headlight washer use, it can harm the polypropylene glass of the headlights. This kind of product is made for manual use.
  21. All flat6 engines become DFI system and new design, starting with 2.9 liter.
  22. As mentioned elsewhere generation 1 heads and timing management US and ROW are different, take a look between the water hoses, under the airco compressor ( pic 2=banc2 ) if you can find the sensor, he should be there.
  23. There is a update available, but 95% chance the car needs a new valve block.
  24. I answered your post in an other topic concerning the same question, the engine on the pic have the 1 generation cyl. heads, take a look deep between the water hoses on the opposite side, US is different than Euro, they have no control on bank2.
