  1. The cigarette lighters and power sockets are unlimited usable, you would have power sockets (or at least the connectors) left and right in the back (ROW)
  2. A non leaking vacuum spare tank and hoses should hold him quiet for a day (or two), there is only a slight different sound noticeable for a split second on start up.
  3. I have no technical info available here, so i cant give no conclusive answer about the possible different flow characteristics of both pumps. Contact your dealer or Bosch for that info.
  4. Yes, probably a slipping multi-V belt, i would take a look, perhaps time for service and belt change?
  5. Check the switch on the gear box, connect both wires together, with the ignition on, if the lights will work, change the switch.
  6. As mentioned: front drains clogged (beside the battery and under the brake booster) - membrane between the left door trim and door (torn or loose) - electric connector in left A-pillar (protective rubber hood torn or defective) - left door seals - front window sealing kit cracked. Let a helper spray some water over this area and look at the same time for penetrating water.
  7. Remove the front wheels and inner wheel well liners to have access to the drain tubes, the routing is on top of the fuel tank, front drain holes even without rubber liners or tubes have no access to the cabin. There are 2 drains left and 2 drains right of the battery, the tube on the pic could be the battery overflow.
  8. I can only speak of Europe Cayenne's which have always a PCM with a phone card slide, so the PCM can stay in place in this case. There are several used cars which are transformed from non phone to phone option, parts needed: phone module - MOST cables - complete wiring - antenna - PIWIS for program (dealer) and 1 day of labour.
  9. Power window mechanism is only available as unit WITHOUT the motor, the squeak is caused by the mechanism which gave hot the best part of his live.
  10. ottawa, please use the search function on top of this page "Ticking engine" you can find some discussions + pics.
  11. I would check the starter motor head cable also, if the rubber protective cap on the rear of the starter solenoid, is melted on the cable by heat, replace the cable. 997 is well known for bad starter cables, too much resistance in power supply to the starter and battery.
  12. Your dealer got it right, there is a difference in spoiler height between Turbo coupe and Turbo cabriolet (at least on ROW). Unfortunately i have no info, and i cant remember how much difference in mm. it really was.
  13. I know of some trouble (stiffness) with the gear lever synthetic housing on earlier 997, manual and Tiptronic as well, when hot. They are replaced under warranty, it looks uncommon that the gearbox malfunction is situated in the box on several gears and axles but still possible. It is necessary to remove the cables from the gearbox to check by hand the shift mechanism on the box. I hope he did that.
  14. KPV The pump UNIT is different towards connections in a different fuel tank, the best option is to replace the PUMP itself, you can order a pump in a ROBERT BOSCH service center, the Bosch # is stamped on the pump body. The total cost is 50% lower than the complete Porsche unit, just some work to pull out the faulty pump and push in the new one. There is no manual for this job since it's not a official and approved Porsche accomplicement. Hope it's help.
  15. Most common issues are: fork axle bearing(s) faulty - bended fork axle - pressure plate faulty. I would take a look inside the bell housing and inspect/check the complete clutch system.
  16. mjcaskey What means bottom gears? 2 - 4 and 6 ?
  17. Let the dealer check out the cause of the rattle, he can decide if the cat. needs replacement in warranty or not.
  18. I would not worry you but most of this history's ended up with a blown DME. Lucky you get a new one.
  19. Just swapping the DME is not an option, there is need on more than the DME alone.
  20. The IMS problem is much improved since the latest design on M96/97 engines off MY 06. If you can buy the car with a large discount, i would no doubt. Take your time and wait till the new generation is in the show rooms. The later resale value for the latest of the first generation will not be much lower as the first of the new generation and will compensate a lot of the total costs IMHO.
  21. The rear roof crosses (reinforcement) where the headliner is connected to, just above the rear window, can hit the roof if the fasten kit came loose. The noise sounds as a drum, this was a known problem on some cars. I don't now what kind of sound the noise makes in your car but you can always give it a try.
  22. Only the wheels lined with wood are not available with heating.
  23. The main reason of a failed Cayenne cluster mod is the difference between MY04< (cluster with build-in gateway) and >MY05 (cluster with gateway apart, build under the dash). The clusters are not interchangeable without problems as mentioned in some posts.
  24. alstarz88, the chime is probably disabled, you can turn on the chime with a PIWIS tester.
  25. There is no OEM system available which work with the remote till now, perhaps in the future?
