  1. Connecting a good battery maintainer on the car, tyre pressure setting and a bottle of fuel treatment in the gas tank should suffice for 7 months IMHO.
  2. Good point about the clutch switch, the ignition switch on the contrary am not convinced, it's possible, in some cases with a faulty switch, to activate the starter motor and loosing contact with the ignition at the same time, due a defective inner switch. The DME and pump relays are also a possibility to check. You can hear the fuel pump running in the front trunk, let a helper start and put your ear on the trim behind the spare wheel.
  3. I'm not 100% sure but i think since the car is equipped with a electric front and rear hood lock/unlock system, the emergency cable is located on the same place as the LHD (right front wheel well) due a indirect connection button/lock (electric system). Why not use a cigarette lighter adaptor and a spare car battery, you can do everything you want, power enough.
  4. Would it be that the CD reader is defective?
  5. I would check the clutch pedal switch, the fuel pump and the ignition switch first, there are more possibility's depending on time to spend.
  6. 996 GT3 doors should fit into a standard 996, since it is for track use, there are no electric (airbag/windows/locks/mirrors) problems to expect. The side windows are made of polypropylene (plastic), i presume.
  7. The remote is available: 1/ blade cut (VIN related) 2/ blank blade (universal - no VIN needed) in 2 button and 3 button remote version as well. You can remove (and change) the blades by ticking out the small locking pin, located in the rotating part of the key. In both cases is a reprogram of ALL the car remotes necessary. US cars needs US remotes towards specific radio frequencies.
  8. I never seen an original lockable Porsche fuel cap for Cayenne's, i do not think that they exist.
  9. shihman Take a look if the dipstick tube is still in place or broken, perhaps sits the dipstick besides the tube and is ON the engine block in stead of IN. 10 quarts of oil in the engine, without any oil mark on the stick looks too unlikely for a simple oil change.
  10. Let the car check on fault codes, big chance that the fault is in the door locks.
  11. The single wire connector (which you have to disconnect) is located on the right fuel (injectors) rail together with the injector wiring. Regarding the lines to a fuel cooler, i cant help you out, 996 Cabrio and Coupe do not have a cooler in Europe except TURBO, but they have another routing. The airco compressor lines are partial flexible and are disconnectible in the top right of the engine room in Europe.
  12. Would it not be better to use a battery maintainer, no problems, no work, no waste of time. Just an idea, if not, disconnect both battery's ( if the car got 2 battery's) Disconnect the ground lead in front, right of the drivers seat for battery 1 and the ground battery cable in the spare wheel room for battery 2.
  13. If the pump is ordered in a OPC, you will have 2 years warranty on parts, go back with the invoice and the broken pump and claim a new one.
  14. It's scary everywhere those day's Phillipe. :(
  15. carreracup03, Since you are a contributing member, you can consult the TSB's, or ask Loren for a exploded view of the desired door trim.
  16. Craig, The metal part is the inner reinforcement of the old plastic tube, you have to remove the metal ring and the rest of the plastic tube. If you install the update light alloy tube, make sure that the starter can be removed later if necessarily, you can rotate the tube slightly on the rubber sleeve for perfect fitting and adjustment. Success.
  17. Defecting heating elements are more common than switches, especially the bottom part of the seat. You can check with a multimeter for short or interruption, the connectors are under the seat (2 wire connectors) for the bottom part and the backrest as well.
  18. You can work with a cigarette lighter adaptor and a spare battery or with the system mentioned in the post above, take care not to touch the car body with the from the battery decoupled cables in this case. If you replace the battery without the cigarette lighter device, there is need for radio code and do a window reset. No CEL will appear, but some of the control boxes will have trouble codes in the internal memory. Do the replacement (without cig.lighter device) with the ignition ON to be sure, ROW cars will have an airbag fault and alarm troubles with the ignition OFF.
  19. Porsche use not the Audi system, the maintenance include only oil change at the indicated interval (depending MY see manual), there is no filter to replace.
  20. Only the intake manifold gasket is needed ( V8/V8T) after starter replacement. If the water tubes above and besides the starter motor are still in plastic, it's recommended to change them with the light alloy updated version due cracked tubes and water leaks.
  21. 997 MY05> use a new water pump with greater flow, the propeller is 3 mm. greater in diameter. The seal is slightly adapted to the new propeller, it can help if the pump will fit.
  22. Remove the side mirror and door trim, apply some silicone spray inside the triangular part of the seal (mirror) and around the window opening for easy and proper fitment without force. The window can stay in place.
  23. The wheel lock key have a 3 digit code starting with a 0, example 011, 004 etc. The 8 digit code is hopelessly complicated to order a new one.
  24. I could be wrong, but in hot conditions with the air condition on and the system in good shape, the fans should be run all of the time, fans kicking on and off is out of the question in this 996 case.
  25. The leak looks like coolant from the left radiator, remove the front bumper to take a look and replace the radiator if necessary. It is not the plug treat but rather the allen key hole what's easily to destroy. There is a lot of info on the board for the DIY.
