  1. Look for the characters AT in the engine number for factory rebuild as quick check, for more detailed info ask your dealer to check the original factory delivered VIN-engine number configuration. OPC also listed in the car's manual.
  2. Remove the trim first, lay the trim aside and remove the belt mechanism from the body.
  3. As you said, the price. Oiled air filters are not recommended toward occasional MAF problems.
  4. Porsche clutches which are hard to press, are in most of the cases worn out, the harder the pressure is the more worn the clutch is (pressure plate).
  5. The cylindrical pill (glass tube?) is the immobilizer, the electronic circuit board with battery is the remote.
  6. You can use S squeal dampers in non S brakes as well, the reason why your non S car have dampers was probably a squeal problem in the past. The adhesive is part of the dampers and already installed on the back side of new dampers.
  7. 1/ Is the indicator light on when the shifter is in reverse? 2/ If you have a electric diagram of the switching in the neighborhood, check the wiring in the switch connector for 12 Volt and make a bridge. If the back up lights are on now, then the switch is faulty.
  8. Get the 4 wheels balanced if you are there, with a special attention to folded or curved rims, flat spots and roundness (oval) of the tyres. You will have a better overview about the problem IMHO.
  9. To put some light on this topic: it was usual to lift the rear of the car by the engine, as Moderator Orient Express stated, till Carrera 3.2 litre (all air coolers) included. All these vehicles had SOLLID RUBBER engine mounts, since the introduction of the HYDRAULIC engine mounts, it is prohibited to lift the the vehicle by the engine. Hope it's helps.
  10. The ducts showed in your pics are indeed the resonance flaps.
  11. I think your vibration problem was caused by a not 100% effective resonance flap(s) in the intake manifold vertical pipe(s), before cleaning.
  12. I will recommend a Porsche PIWIS diagnostic tool to check out the fault codes, and to do deeper examinations of the problem, could be the injector or something else. Guessing and replacement of parts without result is too expensive.
  13. On the left and right side of the panels, inside the unit. Open/tilt the roof completely to lubricate the sliders, if no avail, a dismantling of the panels is needed which is not really a DIY due precautions and adjustments to take. Hope it helps.
  14. You can trey to lubricate all the panoramic roof rubber seals and sliding mechanism with silicon spray, to start with. I would not worry you, but the Cayenne panoramic roof is a source of all kinds of problems, be prepared. The quantity of already replaced units due problems is countless.
  15. The cool water drain is located on the rear of the engine (bottom side), in the middle of the central water duct, a small bold (Allen key needed). Lift the car up on the front with a jack and place a water recipient under the drain to catch the water properly, emptying the system with vacuum doesn't work well, filling the system with vacuum in contrary works excellent.
  16. Is the radio (part of the PCM) antenna cable disappeared? Take a good look behind the PCM.
  17. The differences are the turbo positions in face of the spark plugs, the easiest way (with the engine in the car) is to unbolt the turbo and push them a little backwards/downwards with a bar or something, without damage them, to reach the plugs. In contrary of the 996TT, the 997TT is a PITA to change the plugs.
  18. If the car was already equipped with Sport Chrono, it's a matter of program. See Loren's post above what to do about the activation code.
  19. Purchase a good battery maintainer with cigarette lighter connector for next winter storage. You can keep the battery connected in the car without problems of losing codes etc. The best option IMHO.
  20. Probably not that common, perhaps Audi and VW use the same system in their cars.
  21. The assist unit showed in your pic. is located approx. half way to the top of the clutch pedal.
  22. The motor is located in the left rear trunk corner, packet in foam, behind the plate.

  24. The cable and motor is only available as one part, if i remember correctly.
