  1. It is primarily important to determine the cause and spot of the smoke (steam-vapour), if it comes from the previously mentioned coolant circuit i would still consider to replace the pipes and those on the rear of the engine, before a further problem occurs with sudden large coolant loss. The coolant is first drained before they replace the pipes. Hope it helps.
  2. The 4 hydraulic power struts (2 large and 2 smaller), located behind the hinges and above the roof trim are worn, have them replaced. Do a search, it's been discussed here several times.
  3. The 2 hoses and plastic connectors on the back of the engine should have been replaced together with the the 3plastic pipes in the middle of the V for better access. The allu. pipes, and of course, the older plastic pipes can also leak where they are connected to the thermostat housing. The small and brittle black plastic pipes connected to the left and right cylinder head (visible above the allu.pipes in the pic., are also a source of problems.) With the allu. pipes installed, there are no longer major leaks in that area which can cause damage. Cayenne V8 and Turbo till MY06. MY08 DFI engines have an other design but are still made of plastic.
  4. I assume the car is equipped with a BOSCH alternator, if you decide to buy a used one it is also recommended to compare the original BOSCH code #, which include encryption for alt.RPM/max.AMP output/voltage/direction/type of rotor/ external diameter, pulley etc., the code would be located on the body.
  5. The famous plastic cooling pipes are indeed connected (push in) in to the thermostat housing, a small coolant leak at that spot drips into the V between both cylinder banks and evaporated before the coolant hit the floor, that could be the smoke you have seen. A leak on the water pump typically falls on the floor or the under tray.
  6. If you follow the advice of "JFP in PA" and "wvicary" be sure that the multi-meter is already installed before before you disconnect the + cable from the battery terminal, the circuit should never be interrupted otherwise the suspected control boxes will be reset and will often not identify abnormal measurements.
  7. The thermostat housing (with the plastic cooling pipes) is situated on this spot, maybe a small water leak ? I would take a closer look.
  8. Yes, you can give it a try to be sure, some next steps to take are damaged water pump rotor, thermostat, clogged radiator(s), etc.
  9. Darrin, are you sure the cooling system pressure is correct? With a faulty cap the cooling system generates no or not enough pressure which results in higher engine temperatures.
  10. 5W-50 oil has no problems of any kind that i know of, is also perfectly within specifications for the southern Italian and Spanish regions.
  11. As "clickman" stated N-rated tires are tested and approved by Porsche, but they do have stronger side wall"s than the equal series product of the same manufacturer. This is mainly done for European Porsche's, they have a stiffer and lower suspension as a standard, equipped with non N- rated tires it's possible that the car is sensitive to lateral movements under heavy acceleration, especially C4 and Turbo. Maybe it does not matter to Porsche's meant for the American market, since they are higher and have a weaker suspension.
  12. Randy-K Go to a dealer or somebody with a PIWIS diagnostic tool, and let them run a "New Vehicle Handover" the control box is probably lost his memory. This problem is here on several occasions addressed in 986/996 forum.
  13. Probably the transmission mechanism to the adjustable air flap is sticking behind the dashboard edge, you must be careful, slightly wriggle, pull out of the dash. Reinstalling is harder, because you have no idea if it will work perfectly until the vent is in place.
  14. It's here already several times mentioned: Cayenne in D start only in 1 gear when the engine is cold and when flooring the accelerator, with hot engine and quick and in one move, on for example a traffic light. M mode is manual shift mode, it is normal to shift in 1 gear manually. In all other cases, the Tiptronic is programmed to start in 2 gear. Normal behavior IMHO.
  15. Coolant loss on MY 2008 (DFI) Cayenne is usually caused by a leaking water pump/thermostat housing.
  16. @ PAULSPEED Tiptronic gearboxes, manufacture of M.B., can not be removed separately without occasional accidents. Manual gearboxes are no problem with the gearbox mount removed and a slight inclination downwards of the engine-gearbox combination, the top bolts are accessible than.
  17. 987/997 are different, the shell consist of 2 separate parts, the glass must be removed first, they are a little more tricky to remove from the mirror chassis. Ask Loren for a exploded view.
  18. I have the impression that there are several things do not work as it should, hard to say from a distance, i would let it check by a competent person.
  19. And perhaps weird shift phenomenons (Tiptronic) because the final ratio is changed.

I would first check what exactly is defective, accumulator, slave cylinder/valve block/power unit, power steering pump or a fracture/deformation in the clutch system itself, an accumulator is what it is, a spare storage of liquid under pressure, to remain auxiliary power for approx. 10 clutch pedal movements with the engine shut off. In other words with the engine running receives the power cylinder/valve block, on the gearbox, always directly pump pressure. It's important to know for sure what's broken before replacing parts randomly. It is only the rear part of the hydraulic clutch system (accumulator and power unit) which is under high pressure, the front part (main cylinder, clutch fluid canister and clutch fluid line to the rear of the car) works like a regular Carrera. The pedal box parts and the main cylinder will go defective over the long term, they are not designed for long time use without clutch power assistance, they can't hold the much heavier pressure that the driver should perform on the pedal.
  21. Is the correct fill level held? With for example 200 gram too little, he will still function but should be circulated more to maintain an acceptable cooling capacity. PST and PIWIS diagnose not everything, i would advise you to contact a AC specialist or a experienced dealership.
  22. Certainly not on AC systems with a compressor equipped with an electromagnetic clutch (986/996/987/997), unless you are at the equator, the temp. set to LOW and the convertible top is open. The system will clearly need to be further investigated if this is not the case.
  23. The front and rear doors act in the same way, the childproof rear door locks are mechanical and are independent from Kessy system.
  24. More or less, point B on the pic is the Cayenne AOS, replacing the tube is the proper method, repair with glue is looking for trouble IMHO.
