  1. If you rotate the pulley by hand, the pump can squeak. This is normal and not audible with the engine running.
  2. This problem was not uncommon for the Cayenne, we still had the PCM replaced. Maybe he is repairable by a third party.
  3. Indeed, but try the spare key also first out.
  4. I suspect that it is a car equipped with Kessy system, try this: drop the dummy key and use the normal key to start the engine and drive the car, if the problem no longer occurs, the remote control is weakening. The distance between the receiver (ignition) and the remote should always be made smaller, initially, the problem is the battery in the remote but over the years using the remote itself becomes weakened.
  5. britdave, take a look here http://www.acea.be/images/uploads/files/2010_ACEA_Oil_Sequences.pdf
  6. Sorry guys, two beeps indicates an alarm issue, one beep indicate an open space.
  7. What you call a drain plug is one of the timing chain tensioners, it is logical that there are in that spot oil droplets can form as this is the lowest point. Anyway it seems that the source of the leak is situated higher up the engine.
  8. A small correction concerns fuel pumps operation: full load fuel tank > 60 L pump 2 running full load fuel tank > 60L pump 1 and 2 running both together if off road mode is engaged. ( Cayenne DFI ) This happened to a more even wear and heat distribution to obtain.
  9. From the notes i have left: with the activation of drivers outer door handle - pump 2 (left side) running starting procedure: pump 1 (right) and 2 (left) running part load fuel tank < 60 L pump 2 running full load fuel tank < 60 L pump 1 running part load fuel tank > 60 L pump 1 running full load fuel tank > 60 L pump 1 and pump 2 running both together. Hope it helps.
  10. Sorry for the late response, i spend a week in southern France. I would take a closer look in the cat. area, such symptoms at higher engine revs are not uncommon with a cat. on his end.
  11. As far as i know, 2004 Cayenne has no automatic trunk lid closing system at that time of production. It is only released for MY 2008 if i remember correctly.
  12. Basically you have a point there, but are well aware of the fact that in the UK the price of gas is risen now to a multiple of the US price.
  13. For Japanese plugs, the higher the number the colder the range is. For European plugs, the higher the number the hotter the range is.The heat/cold range are opposite of each other, some caution is recommendable.
  14. The spark slide during its way between the tip and the nearest side electrode partially across the insulator to keep the nose clean from combustion dirt. This type of spark plug is also called "sliding spark plug" over here.
  15. I would start by cleaning the throttle body, a slight wobble every now and than of "maybe" one mm. ( 0.04 in. ? ) seems too little for a ignition related problem. You can always check, with a diagnostic device, for fault codes and actual values to be sure.
  16. It is not very clear about what type of 996 it is, if it is a C4, fill with approx. 20 liters of fuel, i suspect that the fuel gauge is upset by several refillings with small amounts of gas. Let the fuel gauge calibrated afterwards.
  17. If one of the bulbs has blown, the other stops working as well. I can not remember if this phenomenon occurs if the left bulb blow first or the right one, in any case there will be only one bulb blown.
  18. It may also be that the slave cylinder push rod is not in the correct position of the fork, anyway, this is only visible after removing the slave cylinder.
  19. As always, reed the actual values and error codes first, it can be anything as air leaks, etc.
  20. As a hardtop is not bolted or welded completely to the chassis or body it will have no effect on the stiffness of the car, in other words, the car remains the same stiffness maintained with or without hardtop. What concerns the bird noise, i would suggest to put yourself on the back seat and let someone else drive, that offers more possibilities to detect the source of the noise.
  21. The fog lights (front and rear) can be turned on with the parking lights (ROW) Loren!
  22. Usually it is a flawed applied sealant between the windshield and the groove along the bottom side, about in the middle of the windshield, not between the trim and the windshield. There is no infiltration of rainwater, just only air noise.
  23. If the jack stands at the designated places of the car have been placed, it does no harm at all. Note that the engine or engine-gearbox combination should always be supported by a jack or something, they should not linger with the mounts partially removed.
