  1. Take a look at http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18491
  2. A piece of the timing chain pitch, or scavenge pump rotor pieces for example, it depends on what kind of metal they have fond in the filter housing. It still a guess without opening the engine.
  3. After a week of stand still the system is disabled, open the door with the key and put the key in the ignition lock ( ignition on ) while pushing on the remote button and try again. It will not work if the car is a daily driver, you need the original bar code for a new programming, the dealer can help you out.
  4. Your dealer got right, without dismantling the engine he cant determine the cause. Timing chain fail ( broken ) on his own or by a blocked scavenge pump is an issue which comes every now and than, not very common. The intermediate shaft failure have nothing to do with this problem IMHO. Spontaneously broken timing chains gives unfortunately no warning signs. I don't no what the mileage on the car is, but you can try to get a commercial intervention ( kulanz ) in the costs, if you don't shoot you cant hit.
  5. MAF measure the intake air mass and is a parameter for the engine management ( DME ), with the MAF disconnected is the engine management in limp mode, in some cases is the limp mode program better than a bad MAF and the engine will run better.
  6. The switch is only to keep the PSE quiet, he controls a solenoid which cut vacuum to the muffler valves to make them loud or ad vacuum to keep them quiet.
  7. You have to remove the wheel and the front part of the inner wheel well, the cable is located behind and in the environment of the water tubes ( if you are the first one to do this ). aintpatricksday suggest is easier to do.
  8. This tube is a part of the engine ventilation system and comes from the AOS, there is an O ring present. Disconnecting the tube and take a look for damage.
  9. The cable of the by the remote controlled electric motor is probably broken, if you open the trunk with the manual handle and remove the trim under the trunk latch, you can take a look.
  10. fsoulie I should check the sensor in first place.
  11. The cig.lighter should have power all the time ( key out of ignition ) check the fuse/connector/wiring. Is the stereo stock? PCM or CDR?
  12. white The central cooler is a part of the engine cooling system. There is no central cooler on 987 tip. or man. 987S have one. I know it is confused. The tip.cooler is a water/oil exchanger ( as on the engine ) controlled by a old fashion VW heater core water valve ( vacuum ). The valve is closed by vacuum all the time till the temp.sensor in the transmission send a signal to the control box to open the valve. The control box send this signal to a solenoid which shut off the vacuum and at this moment the water/oil exchanger is a part of the cooling system. If you ever have a tiptr. which run too cold, even after replacing the thermostat, look for a cracked vacuum hose or faulty water valve, the solenoid is under control.
  13. white The central radiator got nothing to do with tiptronic, the transmission got a water/oil exchanger on top. It depends on the car for ex. 997 - S - 4S - turbo.
  14. I was not clear enough, disconnecting the battery clears the DME codes and adaption values, at the same time you put in code "Power failure" in several other control boxes.
  15. Every time the battery is disconnected the codes are cleared and most important, the adaption values are reset to zero, which means that if the problem is very small it will take a long time before the cell comes up again. Take note that the problem is not solved now.
  16. You can remove/change the pistons with the clam shell open and the convertible hood in service position. The rear wheel and fender can stay in place, they have nothing to do with a piston change.
  17. Let the engine run on the starting motor til the oil pressure on the indicator is OK, than you can start the engine like usual. Engine break in is the same as a new car ( see your manual ) Oil change after 20.000 Km. or every year as usual.
  18. Is the canvas top removed with or without the mechanism ?
  19. jpollari Try to find someone with a PIWIS to clear the fault code, if the tester is not able to clear, report back.
  20. You got my sympathy. I'm sorry that i can not help.
  21. Do you mean the 3th ( small ) key? There are 2 versions: 1) only to open the door ( without transponder ) and 2) to open and start the car ( with transponder ) you don't need a bar code for both versions, version 2 needs an accession with the PIWIS to the system via E-pass. Bar code is only for the remote control.
  22. The car is a 2006 which means a 997 to be clear. I think that the key is not the culprit but the comfort settings via CAN-bus in the control boxes, let your dealer disable all comfort settings in the diverse control boxes and try again.
  23. The brake assist system is different, 986 use engine vacuum, 987 use a separate pump.
  24. Iridium plugs cost to much money for the same result as the standard ones.
  25. It is recommended to replace the complete return line, a smaller diameter of the return line results in to big pressure and is not well for the pump and all the seals in the system.
