  1. Update, after over a year of ownership I feel that for me I made the right choices. I know that they are expensive options but the additional features that they brings to the table are worthwhile. The PCM is used all of the time in my car, navigation as well. The Bose system is quite good, but still has a hard time keeping up when the top is down, then it provides only background music, not serious listening.
  2. Dang, I checked the numbers for the 987's and both the Boxster and the Cayman are the same... I guess I could bring a tape measure to the dealer to see how close they are, the critical dimension is size, the curve is not a real big deal as long as the material can cover, and then it can be trimmed. Thanks fro replying Loren!
  3. I have a 981 Boxster and want to get a Clearplex windshield protection film (kit). I need to determine if the Cayman (2014) has the same exact shape windshield as my Boxster (2013). I do know that the Porsche part number for a Boxster windshield is 981 542 911 0X (depending on tint/antenna). Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the clarification Nick, it is tough not to call the dealer and ask if this can be added now, problem is there are so many cool options, I need to take a breather! ;-) At least I know I can add them later. My sales asscociate tells me a March 6th completion date, so in time for the late spring, perfect timing. So, the Channel Islands, I hope you have enough roads to keep to busy? I too live on an island, somewhat bigger, Vancouver Island, it would take most of the day to drive from one end to the other, still by ferry there are a lot of nice drives on the mainland only 1-1/2 hours away. 5. Well I have a bit of an update, I asked my dealer to check into this, he said there was nothing he could see to change the tach face to black in the 'S'. As a follow up he contacted Germany, the reply back was that it was not option at this time. I guess it goes back to you cannot beleive all that you read.
  6. Thanks for the details Nick, as I am in Canada I checked the CDN configurator and it an $890 option for us, if your kit was complete then $600 is a good deal! The only reason I mentioned the completness of the kit is because of this note in the configurator: I may consider the addition of this option after delivery...
  7. Depending on where you are at with your rebuild(?), you may want to check out these guys: http://www.lnengineering.com/
  8. If you like to see a little tire smoke and a spontaneous reaction take a look at this review by Carlos Lago: I can't beleive that I ordered this car!
  9. Looks great, very good write-up! Any prices that you can share for the kits for comparison to adding these at order time? Al
  10. I see, then maybe what is needed is the tachometer assembly, not just the face? Or better yet, the ability to specify a black gauge at order time... I don't know what they were thinking with that aluminum look!
  11. I read an review in Excellance Magazine on the 2013 Boxster, on the second page it mentioned that there was a 'no-cost' option to change the tach face on the Boxster S from aluminum-colour to black to match the gauge to the left... but so far no one has been succesful in this quest so... I am thinking the other option would be to change the tachometer gauge to the one used in the base model. Can we get the part number and cost for this? Would this be a DIY job? Thanks in advance!
  12. As for additional information on the PCM, there 'might' be a few things, it will allow for the USB connection as already know but in addition to this the display will show and allow the section of the audio files on the USB making song selection a bit more user friendly. The other thing that has been alluded to but not confirmed is the ability to laod MP3's onto the PCM's hard drive for play back when no auxilary device is attached. The reason I said 'alluded to' is that it is appearently mentioned in the later version of the PCM manual but now one that I know has confirmed this actually works or is a feature that will be coming with a subsequent release of PCM firmware. Of course there may also be additional things to access on the PCM like log data for trips if other options are chosen, the complete integration of Blue Tooth musical stream may or may not depend on the PCM option as well. The stock sound sysytem can be described as adaquet, the ability of that system while the top is up should be fine, but with the top down may be a bit taxed to provide some reasonable sound enjoyment. I know that this may not be a concern to some, but coming from my 2006 and the base audio system, I know that when the top goes down the radio went off, it just couldn't keep up! So the Bose options was 'checked'. So PCM, in the end it was a tough decision to make, expensive too, but I decided there was enough tangible and possible uses and abilities that the PCM would provide that made checking yet another option box 'necessary'. ;) Besides, although you can add this later given the upgrade cost and hassle you probably won't. So I am in... on both.
  13. I am really wrestling with this, it is a very expensive option in Canada, I told the saleman that it sucks to have to pay $3600 more for the PCM to get a USB input to the audio system, especially in car at this level when you already pay $810 Cdn for the Bose system.... (Infotainment Pkg. PCM packaged with Bose, HD and Sirius radio (which I won't use) = $4410 So there must be more that PCM brings to the mix, there is Navigation, 5.1 Audio, Graphical display of the G forces, that USB auxilary audio input... But what else? BTW, I am going with the manual transmission. As good as the online configurator is the complete order guide for this new model would be nice... Thanks.
  14. OK, I have a MY06 so a 987-1, does it use the same filter as a 987-2?
