  1. 2002 996 targa tiprtonic, thanks loren!
  2. Can anyone give me the original part number for the 996 X74 sport suspension kit! I was given this number, but my dealer said it was not a correct number-000-044-500-34 . Need the coorect part number for the X74 kit. Thanks
  3. Hello there! I just jacked the car up front on both left and right sides. I was able to move both front wheels easily from left to right, but not from 12 to 6 positions. While doing this it did make a slight metal sound and the steering wheel shifted a good amount. So my question now is that since both front wheels moved from left to right and did make some noise, does this pretty much indicate that I need new wheel bearings? Also if the wheel bearings were good would is still be able to move the wheels from left to right while the car is jacked up on one side? Thanks
  4. Can anyone help, I get a wierd gringing sound on a 02 996 when turning left or right while giving it throttle. This grinding sound even somtimes occurs at speeds of 65mph while going in a straight line. I have checked everything up front and it seems to find. I just need some help on what tests or how I can check if it is the wheel bearings are not. Any DIY post, if so was not able to find them. Thanks Board members
  5. Loren could you help! I tried to search the board, but cant find any info on how to check the wheel bearings on a 2002 996 targa? Is there any DIY that you can give me the link. My dealer wants $350 to just look at it, I have checked every bold , front suspension, wheels, brakes and everything seems to be find. This grinding noise only occurs when turning left and right and giving medium to hard throttle. So I am guessing that it is a wheel bearing. I also wanted to know how long the stock 996 suspension last in terms of milelage. And would it be safe to tryand replace the wheel bearings your self? Thanks
  6. Hello, I have a 2002 996 Targa and get a very loud grinding noise coming from the fron the car when I turn left or right while giving it gas in turns, but when I turn through corners and do no give it gas their in no noise! Also if I accelerate hard from a standstill it also makes that same noise when turning. Do is this a sign of a fron wheel bearing being shot? I have check the front suspension and everything else seems to be fine. thanks
  7. Does anyone have the 18inch High Polished wheel on their 996 facelift Carrera's? I would like to know if they look like chrome wheels in person? I do not like the way chrome looks, but have seen this Polished wheel on the 2004 996 40th Anniversary model and it seems to be less bright than a chrome wheel. Anyways I also wanted to know if anyone knew if the polished wheels by Porsche that came on the 40th 996 model are heavier than the normal alloy w/ silver finnish? Any feed back would be great, im thinking about making a purchase soon, but have not been able to see the wheels upclose, can someone tell me if they shine like a chrome wheel when the sun hits it, or they just glossy but dont shine as much. Thanks
  8. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a 996 Turbo litronic headlight to a 2002 996 litronic headlight? I need to replace my headlights because they are now yellow!, the only think i notice diff in the turbo is that it has the clear mirrior base panel and the 996 Carrera's have the plastic vertical lines running down them. Would it be ok to put the 996 Turbo lits on a base 996?
  9. Loren, I have read that some members on this board said that Porsche does not reccommend any sport suspension for the 996 Targa, because you risk of bending the frame over rough roads? I just want to make sure, but you know everyrhing so i guess I will order it form Gert. Thanks ! They say that about Cabs too - but many folks have done it without problems. The MY2002 and newer cars do have stiffer chassis than the early cars. Ok I'm gonna take your advice! I also wanted to get your opinion about putting the tequipment 996 High Polish 18inch Carrera 5-Spoke wheels on a Arctic Silver 996 Targa, do you think it will be to much? I cant seem to find any pics. Thanks Again!
  10. Loren, I have read that some members on this board said that Porsche does not reccommend any sport suspension for the 996 Targa, because you risk of bending the frame over rough roads? I just want to make sure, but you know everyrhing so i guess I will order it form Gert. Thanks !
  11. I need help as to what sport suspension kits out there will be safe for a 996 Targa. I read with mixed opinions about sport suspension for the 996 Targa. Anyone on the board have a 996 Targa with any of the following : X74 / PSS9 / Euro M030? Lastly, I have a Porsche sport exhaust from a 1999 996 that I took off and put on my 2002 Targa, but it does not seem to be loud even with the valve being open all the time, did Porsche redesign the PSE for model years 2002 and up? Or is it time to replace with a new PSE? Thanks
  12. Is this normal I have an 02 996 tip with 89 k on it and about 46k on a new transmission , everytime I take off from a stop and give it gas i get a thud feeling coming somewhere under the car, but when I dont give it much gas taking off from a stand still then there is no thud. I also get a loud grinding like noise coming from the front end when turning and giving it a lot of gas through turns? Help!
  13. jacked up the car and turned the wheel , didi not here an noise, checke pressure, wheel nuts. I only get this noise from the front when turning and giving it gas!!! But if I make turns left and right hand turns and do not give it gas then it does not make the noise. So when driving The more I give it gas when turning the LOUDER the noise gets. The sound coming from the front sounds like a mixture of grinding and rumbling where sometime you can kinda feel it from the steering wheel and gas pedal. I have heard some people on the board say it could be front wheel bearings, but how can I check for that and what else cold it be? Thanks everyone!
  14. Hello, I think i have the same problem! I have a 2002 996 Targa and only when I turn and give it gas I get loud grinding/rumbling sound coming from the front end, I have no idea what it might be. If you find out please post.
  15. Has anyone changed the starter and throttle body on a Cayenne S 2004. I think I need to change mine because it doen't start up all the time. Thanks BOARD!
  16. 2002 996 Targa 80K miles rwd. its not the wheel bolts, the sound is coming from the middle of the car where the fuel tank is. You can sit down and shake the front of the car and hear rattles like metal balls moving around. Im not familar with front end so have no idea where it is coming form. If it is the wheel bearings how can i check if they need to be replaced? Or could worn suspension cause this problem? Thanks
  17. Hello everyone, I need help. The last couple of days I have noticed on my 996 targa when I make both left and right hand turns while giving it a little gas through the turns , I get a weird grinding/rumbling sound coming from the front end of the car. I also get some slight vibration from the gas pedal but very light. I have checked the front brakes , suspension and did a visible check for any loose bolts or damage and was unable to find where or what may be causing this noise. I even checked the power steering fluid, it was fine. Also some times just driving on the streets and just going straight at 35-50mph I will get a very loud metal grinding sound that feels like a piece of metal is rubbing up againg the rotor or something. Do not know what could be the problem? Any ideas as to where else I can check would be great.
  18. Is there any DIY post on how to retrofit a factory phone option for a 2006 Cayenne S Titanium Edition?
  19. Loren, what are the torque settings for the caliper bolts and do I need to replace the parts 16/17 . And last the rear caliper does it seperate likeon bmw's and merc's? Thanks
  20. Anyone done the rear brakes on a 997 Turbo? They are different from the 997 Carrera's, in the way that there are no brake pad retaining pin like the fronts. So I would to know how the rear calipers are removed and also how the pads would be inserted? Thanks
  21. Anyone have any information on how to change front and rear brakes on a 1992 911 Turbo type 964. Is it like the 996's I know the calipers are different, but is the process the same as to how the calipers come off?
  22. can someone please give me the part number for the X74 kit! I oredered it from dealer with a part number that someone said was for the X74 and the dealer gave me the m030 here is the part number that I have, please let me know if it is correct for X74 C2 tip" Tequipment Part for RWD Coupes. 000-044-500-34 .
  23. Any 996 Targa owners have the X74 suspension on their cars? I am getting ready to install it on my car. I was curious if the rattles that are already present are worse with the stiffer suspension.
  24. Tool pants , thanks again!! the right rear bulb holder looks just like the one in your picture, it has the bulb at the end that you can pull out and the extensions you were talking about. I went and replaced both bulb holders for the left and right side, the left works perfectly all lights work, its just the right side that the running lights dont work. Any other suggestions. Hello Tool Pants, swapped right side bulbs with left side, the right side ones worked fine when pluged to the left side bulb holder, but the bulbs from the left side that were swapped into the right bulb holder did not work. Again it was just the two running lights that did not work. Do you think there is a fuse that I need to check? I dont know what else to do, I do not have a volt meter. I think it must have something to do with the wiring harness which Porsche said there were none available in the usa for another month and that they want $1100 AT THE DEALER FOR IT. So im thinking i have to check the fuses! if you can break it down which fuse would be good to check first that would be great.
  25. Never mind , found out it was a blown fuse C6
