  1. Wvicary, what type of movement should i look for? How much movement should there to begin with? Do you know if there are any pics of drive belt replacement?
  2. Thanks RMF, but how is the belt removed compared to a 996? RMF, do you have a diagram? I do not know which one is the tensioner. DO happen to know if the bolt on the tensioner is a 24mm like on the 996? Thanks
  3. Thanks RMF, but how is the belt removed compared to a 996?
  4. Does anyone know if changing the drive belt is like a 996 Carrera? I have 66K on my S and want to know how to change it. I have checked most posting, but no details on hoe and if there is room to get to it. Thanks all
  5. RMF, took it to rusnak in pasadena and they said the problem is a " Valve Coil " and want $2800 parts and labor! is there DIY for this? and does the price seem steep?
  6. Thanks RFM! so that problem with leaking oil tubes would cause loss of power and the motor not to start ? What do the oil tubes look like?
  7. the spark plug is completley covered in oil from the igniter going into the motor! and oil on o-rings and coils, the variocam area is also covered in oil and dirt. Thanks anymore input would be great. So do you think the motor is dead? Im towing it to dealer in LA, but they can't look at it until Thursday.
  8. yes the end of the spark plugs that goes into the motor are covered in oil, does this mean the motor is done?
  9. Loren, what oil tubes are you talking about, took the spark plugs back out today and the tips and sides were covered in oil! also I only get one code now and that is the P0300, P0303 no longer comes up. Thanks
  10. Took the spark plugs out and found the tips covered in oil, looks pretty bad, CEL came back on and now only left with one code P0300.
  11. Hi loren, I replaced all 6 spark plugs and complete ignition coils! the car still starts up and sputters and the motor shakes quite a bit, but the check engine light is now gone. Sometimes the motor only turns over when you either hold the key longer than normal during start up or giving it gast while starting. I noticed that the new coils have a 997 part number. I doulbe checked and dealer said that all 996's use the 997's now. I also wanted to let you know that on the driver side coils had a good amount of oil resedue on them. Could this be the MAF sensor, oxygen sensor, cats? Porsche tech said to try and switch both the plugs and coils on opposite sides, I thought they were all the same? Have you or anyone heard or know the reasoning behind this? Thanks oil on the coils and after removing the coil the are signs of oil around the black ring
  12. oh , and the driver side coils were covered in oily grime/dirt..
  13. no oil Loren, just really crusty with orange red rust color as well as the ends of the plugs too
  14. Is there anyway to tell if a mass air flow sensor if fried? I am haveing problems fixing my 996 with code P0303 and P0300. I have replaced the coils and plugs and even double checked to make sure they were all snug, but he car starts up dies or starts up and feels like its going to die. The motor shakes and smokes up near the driver side plugs, but not that bad, but I did not leave it on for long. The good thing is the CEL is off, but the car still is not right, it just either turns off or stays on while motor shakes and feels it has no power, revs under 1000rpm, and sometimes to keep it on you have to give it gas. So my question is could a bad MAF cause these problems? And would it make a difference to swap the coils and plugs on each side? a porsche tech said this might work, anyone with any knowledge of why this mught be? Thanks

  16. CEL came on and loss power got codes P0303 and P0300 B. Any suggestions on what needs to be replaced, trial and error? Thanks
  17. Loren, how do I measure the thickness? I do not know how to use it properly! what is the small measuring device on the bottom that is 0-10 is that in cm? and the top scale is that in mm? Thanks
  18. I just bought a Scala 313.301 model brake caliper measuring tool, I do not know how to use it because the instruction are in german. Does any have any experience using this tool?
  19. you know how many miles they last?
  20. Guys I too have this clunk noise coming from the front suspension. I just had the X74 sport suspension installed and after about 200mils on it I noticed a clunk noise that only happens when going up my drive way. The noise happens has soon as I come into the drive way at an angle. I have the x74 on 02' 996 Targa. Any suggestions?
  21. when is it time to replace the fuel pump on a 02' 996? Are there signs that it is going bad, like the car not starting? i had a 99' with 88,000 miles when the fule pump went bad and wondered if it needs to be replaced early so the car does not lose power and turn off on me as did the 99' 996. My 02' has 88,000 mile on right now. thanks
  22. Yes, my neighbor that lives down the street from me has a 993 Turbo S, and I have a can of Wurth silver paint, the Wurth silver paint are for all standard silver finnish Porsche wheels, but the 993 Turbo S wheel is a silver polish paint, that is night and day difference compared to the standard silver finnish.
  23. Loren, do know the paint code for the 993 Turbo S polish paint? I would like to paint my wheels with that polish look finnish because I called Wheel Enhancement and they told me that the paint for the 993 TurboS wheel is not available here in the states, is this true? Porsche does not have a paint code for wheels. All their wheels are made outside of Porsche. Use the Wurth http://www.properautocare.com/wurth1.html Loren, but the 993 Turbo S wheel has a special polish paint, what do Turbo S owners do if they have scratches on their wheels, buy new ones? I really wanted to find out who supplied the paint for these wheels.
