  2. Loren, one more question...okay actually two. 1) Do you drive both rears onto the 2x10's...or only the right rear? I assume you mean two inches (high) and ten inch wide...so the front tires are still on the ground and only the rears are raised. Do the boards slide out when driving up on them? 2) Any tips to avoid 'over-tightening' the drain plug? Thanks
  3. Can't believe this! As a result of this post, I decided to inquire with the shop that did the previous oil change on my car last month (while owned by previous owner), and found they too used 5W-30! (Mobile 1, but still 30!) I questioned them, and they are adamant that this oil is fine, and that they've got 20 porsches in the shop and are using it for all of them. I'm not taking chances, and hope to use this opportunity to attempt my first DIY procedure. Now, please understand I have NO experience working on cars....and my wife thinks I'm nuts beginning on this one. But from what everyone here says, it sounds doable. I found Loren's writeup, but I had a few outstanding questions for those who have done it here: 1) Is the oil drain plug difficult to locate? Can anyone post a pic of what it looks like/where it is? 2) I understand car need to be at operating temp to change it...car should be turned off though, correct? 3) I plan to pick up some ramps and raise the rear that way...is this okay? 4) I understand I can go with the tighten by hand, then quarter turn further method when replacing the drain plug. Any other things to consider/watch out for?
  4. After learning the shop recently used Castrol 5W-30, I'm going to try to swap it out on my own. I saw the write up (thanks Loren!) in the DIY section, and had a couple questions: First off, since the filter is brand new (and this is my first time ever getting under the car), I'd like to keep things simple and leave the existing filter. All I want to do is drain whatever will drain and add the proper stuff. How much oil will remain in the filter? I assume I won't need to add a full 9 quarts. Also, where can I get the Aluminum sealing ring? Do I need to order, or does the average Pep Boys sell that? Thanks
  5. Can you tell us what you spent? And vehicle data. Some of these companies don't insure 99's for example.

  7. Hmmm, I've got two keys, and both act the same way. When I press the key fob, the light (on the key) blinks several times. I suppose I can try the battery trick, and see what happens. My only concern is, do I risk triggering anything 'worse' by fooling around with this stuff? By worse, I mean something like the immobilizer? Right now, while the alarm/key fob central locking do not seem to be functioning...I can still lock/unlock manually and most importantly-start the car. I would hate to mess up the immobilizer or something by playing with the battery. Is that a valid concern, or am I just being paranoid? Does that rapid succession of key light blinks indicate trouble? Thanks for the assistance and suggestions thus far, I really appreciate it. I'm located in the US (Chicago,IL).
  8. Thanks Loren, I'd seen that post regarding the battery trick when searching through the forums...but the fact that the light on the dash is never on confuses me. Would flipping the battery cure that as well? Guess it's worth a try, unless that light-less dash symptom indicates something else is at fault. Power mirrors don't work at all, whether car is on or off...
  9. I don't get any beeps or honks upon locking. And I can only lock the car 'manually' by inserting the key into the door and turning. The key light blinks as it should when I press the button on it, but does not lock or unlock the doors. Is that a fuse? Would the mirrors be tied to it?
  10. Hoping someone with fuse knowledge might be able to assist me here. The power mirrors and central locking from the key fob are inoperable on my 99 C2. The red light on my dash is always off (never even blinks). Can anyone affirm that those are on the same fuse....and if so, do you know which one I would need to replace? Is there a schematic of the fuse box anywhere? I assume there are spare fuses in there, and am hoping it's as easy as just swapping one in/out (I'm not very proficient with electric). Any thoughts?
