I think you need to hook up to 12 volts and ground.

I would remove the extra wires from the 4 pin connector (phone prep connector). Then put friction tape and electrical tape on the repaired wires. Or, better yet...  cut them, prepare a proper (soldered) spice with heat shrink tubing.
Brown - ground 
Yellow/Black - telephone mute 
Green/Black - switched 12 volts 
Red/Green - unswitched 12 volts

Do you like puzzles? Most of the Porsche connectors have locking mechanisms.
As I recall this one slides (pink part) up to release the connector.

Digital Sound Processing (DSP) lDigital sound processingl (DSP) enabling the digital processing of speech and music in the amplifier is another optional extra. The sound package forms the basis. Apart from further acoustic adaptation to the vehicle, this function also allows spatial acoustic simulation. As a result, pre- and  postreflection can be mixed artificially to give, for example, a concert hall effect. Different acoustic spatial effects can be simulated with DSP. On request, acoustic adjustment can be selected to optimize this spatial impression for the driver's seat or passenger's seat.   Furthermore, programmed acoustic patterns can be stored and called up again. The separate operator unit is housed in the center console at the front of the passenger compartment. Different acoustic adjustments can be selected using the various buttons provided.   Other equalizer functions (selectable frequency band) with several amplification levels can be called up using the optional extra information and navigation system (PCM). The DSP facility is operated entirely from the screen controls. The CD player (CD radio or CD changer) is recommended for optimum DSP sound quality).     Functions:   DSP button When the OSP facility is switched on, the functions last activated are switched on again.   DYN button Speed-dependent volume and acoustic control is switched on/off using this button.   POS button The row of LEOs briefly light up when the POS button is pressed. The listener's position can be spatially adjusted to the driver, passenger, or the middle of the vehicle using the arrow buttons. The LEOs are lit according to the setting.   HiFi-classic-pop buttons A permanently defined acoustic pattern is produced when these buttons are actuated. The function can be deactivated by selecting a different acoustic pattern.   User button The user function is used to create individual acoustic patterns using the room and echo buttons. Spatial impression and echo effect can be changed from low (lefthand LEO) to high (all LEOs) using the arrow buttons.   MI, M2, M3 memory buttons Permanently defined or individually created acoustic patterns can be stored and called using these buttons. The listener's position (POS button) and speed-dependent volume control (OYN button) functions can be stored in the memory together with the acoustic patterns.   • Storing: Press the desired memory button for approx. 2 seconds. • Selecting: Press the desired memory button.  

No they have not been superseded in my list (January 2015) - they are 996 numbers.
997 series cars would have PCM 3 and you have PCM 2.1 - they are very different.

They are just called cover in the parts list.
You will find them in the parts list section for the underbody and wheel well liners.

Item 29 is an H-shaped license bracket (as shown in the diagram) or the plastic holder you have shown - I have seen both.

These are both upgraded parts which should reduce failures.

IMHO... it is always best to be a little below full - as there are no marks above full and it is easy to over fill.

8" fronts are fine - I have them on my MY99 - stay with the same offset and you can go to a 235 front without rubbing.

New spark plugs - 22 ftlb.
Re-used spark plugs - 19 ftlb.
Ignition coils - 7.5 ftlb.

No, Durametric can not program functions that are not available in the 996

It should go off on it's own.
There may also be some idle "re-learning" that will clear up in the first few miles.

Looks like small pieces of case sealant - not that unusual. They should not cause any harm.

Yes, it should be a direct replacement - with no programming needed.
