Yes, the service manual actually says: "Thinly grease thread, shank and under head (between screw head bearing surface and spherical cap ring) of the wheel bolts with Optimoly TA (aluminium paste). Do not grease bearing surface of the spherical cap facing the wheel. If heavily contaminated, clean bolts first with a lint-free cloth." Optimoly TA -- US MSRP $27.11 for 100 grams!

    Yes, 5W-50 is approved for all Porsches (except Cayenne V6) from model year 1984 through present.

  4. i don't believe so but i am the 3rd owner, how would i tell, i guess by removing the center console? No, you just need to lift the shift boot. (4 snap clips)
  5. Get a PPI and/or CPO warranty. I do not think the 3.6 is any more reliable than 3.4 - they are pretty much the same.
  6. Are both lights on and you get a display message? or just both lights?
  7. Item 8 - Lower control arm -- US MSRP $335.41 (each) Check with Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost) for better pricing.
  8. 8.5 x 18 were not stock on 996TT and only optional after MY03-- only on GT2. The rears are likely ET 45 so I think that will be a real problem. I think you might get 10's under the rear fenders (if rolled) without rubbing (depending on tire size) but I don't think 11's will work. Perhaps some Boxster owners can chime here...
  9. Porsche recommends a small amount of anti-seize on the bolt threads only. A small amount should not have a bad effect on torque settings - plus or minus 10 ft/lbs. is okay.
  10. Yes, if you disconnect the battery is does have to re-learn. Just drive it as you normally would - it may take 5 miles or so to re-learn. Loren, Thanks for the reply. I cleaned the idle air valve and it helped tremendously. Car went for 2 days without a problem, rock solid, until this evening and started again. I noticed when I was cleaning everything, the plastic hose that connects the oil seperator to the throttle body had oil in it. It was wet enough to cover my finger, so I cleaned it as best I could. Is there a procedure to clean the seperator, or is it replace only ? Also, is it possible that the two problems are related, as in, a vacum problem not venting the crankcase ? Thanks for your advice ! If there is oil in the throttle body then you likely have a bad AOS. This would also cause a vacuum leak (and corresponding fault code).

  12. Either read the width and offset off the wheels or get the part numbers. Fronts should be ok - rears may need spacers.
  13. :welcome: What diagnostic tool is he using? Have you tried another key?
  14. Too bad for you... the Porsche (NA) Tech training classes used to be in Las Vegas. I think they are only in Atlanta now - but then you would need to get hired by a dealership first. ;) Ask your questions here and some folks that are more familiar with the tools will try to answer them.

P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak) Possible cause of fault - Tank cap not tightened correctly, faulty or missing - Mechanical fault in EVAP canister purge valve (does not close fully) - Leakage diagnosis pump leaking internally (membrane) or externally - Mechanical fault in EVAP canister shutoff valve (does not close fully when power is supplied) - EVAP canister shutoff valve connections leaking - Tank system (including pipes) leaking Check your gas cap and seal. There have been some changes to the gas cap so you might want to make sure you have the latest revision.
