  1. The part numbers on the mufflers should be right next to the Porsche logo (triangle with a P in the center). Yes, tips are a separate part number.
  2. Keep the key OUT of the ignition unless you want an airbag light.

  4. +1 on Durametric's usefulness and the support you get from the owner, Duram. Regards, Maurice. Ditto. Get the software. Duram is very helpful and way accessible to discuss the installation and operation of the programs... Can the Duramertic tool show O2 sensor voltage and MAF air flow? Or determine if an MAF is bad by performing diagnostics on it. Thank you Yes, it can show O2 sensor voltage and MAF air flow. The only diagnostic for a MAF that I know of (regardless of tool used) is to see the air flow at idle and then at 2500 RPM and see if it is within spec. If the MAF air flow reading does not change with engine speed then it is not working.
  5. 1 & 2. - Yes, there is a database at Porsche. Only dealers can access the database (I am sure for privacy reasons). 3. Go the TSB section here and sort by number. All TSBs that start with W (W = Workshop Campaign) should be performed - unless your car is not in that specific group (VIN or build date.)
  6. I think you should have it towed to the shop.
  7. I have the headlight problem with my boxster S 2002 as well. My windshield wipers also do not work when the headlights do not work. Sometimes after turning off the engine and taking out the key, the radio stays on the gong warning sound comes on as to indicate that my keys are still in the car when I've already removed the keys. Do you guys have that problem? Is it caused by the ignition switch? Can you tell me where I can find the DIY instructions? thanks! :) Betty :welcome: Next time please give our Search a try... Replacing the Ignition Switch
  8. All that's required are the mounts that bolt on to the car that receive the locks on the top. Mounts are specific to the locking pins on the car but for the '00 to '04 tops the parts numbers were 996-561-653-03 and 996-561-654-03. Mounts are left - right specific with the left mount having the electrical connection for the rear defroster included. Electrical hookup is plug and play as the 997 includes the harness for the defroster connection. How do you determine what year the 996 top is? Is there a specific number designation for a 1999 top? A 2000-2004 top? And a 2005 (996) top? The tops are all the same part number. The early cars need to have the mounts updated.
  9. Yes, that is correct for both models - but it is only a muffler hanger (item 28).
  10. Remove the cover then the screws.
  11. Maybe you should read this topic too: High mile role call
  12. Please read the FAQ - there are no other numbers. You will have to test them for yourself. Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
  13. Once again we have been graciously invited to use the lift and garage facilities of the Bordens....a RennTech couple who live about 45 minutes up off of Highway 50 east of Sacramento. David and Mary have a formal detached garage with a lift for those projects that might require some work underneath. There are also floor jacks, jack stands etc for those project that don't need a lift. Date/Time: Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 10 AM to 5 PM. (All projects need to be completed by 5 PM at the latest.) I will provide directions to those that do not already have them closer to the date. If you have a project you would like to do please post (as a reply) it here. This is postponed - see the end of this thread for more information.
  14. Tool Pants is correct. On the Porsche TSB Winter Tire, Wheel, & Snow Chain Applications it states on all the 16 inch wheels "not for Boxster S". Boxster S and Carrera use the same rotors (except C4S).
  15. Fundamentally they are the same. I suggest you add the switch so you can control it and do not add the speedometer control. The speedometer control was rally meant for Switzerland where they have noise laws between 30 and 40 MPH.
  16. Maybe my PET is newer...
  17. ... and/or torque. Hello Loren, I'm assuming that you don't recommend it, correct? In this case I think that I will go ahed and look for installing the Powerkit from Porsche Thanks Liberato IMHO there are very few aftermarket kits that will give you much of anything (other than a lighter wallet) on normally aspirated engine Porsche. Even Porsche's powerkit is only going to give you 20 BHP. Turbo's are a very different story.
  18. The cable is behind the left rear tail light. You will likely have to reach behind the left rear wheel well liner to find it or near the tail light from under the car.
  19. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15055 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2751 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15255 and many more...
  20. Xenon is a gas discharge bulb and requires very voltage to ignite and start the gas. I am afraid putting 12 volts across it will do nothing. He should swap the bulb from one side to the other though - then see if the problem follows the bulb.
  21. I have seen 5 year/100,000 mile warranties for $2500.
  22. Please do a search here - the emergency release cable has been discussed here many many many times.
