  2. Great stuff! Thanks, but how often should one change engine oil and filter? See the minor maintenance schedule for your model car.
  3. Unless the parts are damaged or really worn I wouldn't worry about replacing them. A little surface rust is normal depending on the climate.
  4. Sorry, my point was that folks didn't know it could be done a 986 until they tried.
  5. Two questions: 1. Which parts and tools would be different for a 997-1 (3.8 litre motor)? 2. Where can I obtain a Maintenance Schedule? The stack of manuals that came with my 2nd-hand '05 C2S coupe didn't include one. Thanks. 1. Everything is the same for 996 and 997 including tools. 2.   6. Thanks for the comments. One thing about fuel dilution...and you probably already know this...but they recommend you get your sample when your oil is hot after a drive. Your fuel dilution numbers will be higher if you take a cold sample. I think it might be a good idea to utilize the area in front of the shifter (the "cubby hole") for a couple of small analog gauges, if I can find any that small. I don't use that anyway. I am going to search some more to see what I can find. I was hoping to get some advice from some other Porsche owners that have done this already. I especially miss the oil temp for auto-x. When I get my first oil change...which won't be until sometime next year...I'll post up the results. Thanks, again, -Michael Yes, I always take the car out on the highway and give it a good run -- gets rid of the fuel and water in the oil so I don't get inaccurate analyses. If enough people did UOA's, we could probably talk Loren into setting up a dedicated section on the forum.   8. Check your grounds and check the connector inside the fender.
  9. From the Porsche Tires Brochure (Feb 2006) - you can download it here. "Use only tire types tested by Porsche. Only tires with the same manufacturer and with the same specification code (e.g. "N0", "N1"” …) should be mounted on the vehicle. Tires should be replaced no less than in pairs on one axle at a time. Only tires of the same tire make and type must be used. Since many Porsche vehicles are fitted with different sized tires on their front and rear axles, this requires matching the tire brand, tire name and N-specification front to rear."

Yes I saw that but when I clicked on it earlier, it said I had to be a contributing member. Which, of course, I'm not yet. That was an error and has been changed - all members can download maintenance schedules.
  11. Measure resistance between Pin 1 and Pin 15. Display: 0.3 to 0.7 Ω (at 20 °C) Any other measurement means they are bad (or you have a poor connection).

  13. Sub assembly means a piece of the final assembly. Usually, Porsche only sells final assemblies (complete parts).
  14. Chuck, I'll bring my VOM and my electrical pin tools.
  15. My bad I think I was unclear. Right now when I set the alarm a get 2 blinks. I would like to get 2 chirps of the horn so that I know that the alarm is set. On other systems I have had it was just a dip switch setting to make this happen. As I said two chirps mean there is an alarm system fault. Having chirps is not an option on Porsche alarms - sorry.
  16. Two beeps means that there is a fault in the alarm system. You will need the Durametric Software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester to read out the alarm fault codes.
  17. I done 3 searches through the database of parts and there are zero parts in Porsche's (sellable) parts database that begin with 996.362. So, my guess is that is a sub assembly part number. We see that all the time on bumper parts.
  18. This the second time you have posted this. You need to read the reply here.
  19. Check for a loose wire at the sender or even a leaking sender. Both are fairly common.
  20. Please read this and follow the instructions... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST If the serial number on the screen does not match the one on your card then the radio has been changed out and the code is wrong. In that case follow the rest of the FAQ and I will try and guess your correct code.
  21. All possible wheel combination are listed in Porsche TSBs. Too many to list here.
  22. Take the 3 - 13 mm nut off the bracket and loosen the two 17 mm bolts ont he cat sleeves and the muffler tilt and come right out. Try it next time - it will save you a lot of time and pain.

  24. Are you sure? I think the part in the way is item 17 (or 18 depending on the side).
