  1. RMS is almost always dead center under the car. Put it on a lift and have a closer look.
  2. I think he said they are replacing the cylinder head.
  3. You are measuring the oil in the sump - so if the oil is warm and the car is on level ground - then it is likely pretty accurate. Porsche's are sensitive to over filling so don't be concerned if the it is not all the way at the full mark. Better to be a little below (IMHO).
  4. There isn't one. All checks are done electronically through your instrument cluster/onboard computer. See your Owner's Manual for more details.
  5. One more try here: anyone got a better solution than paying over $2,800 to buy a new instrument cluster to fix the broken clock and/or instruments light control stalks? These are what should be $1.98 parts, that Porsche decided ought to be non-replaceable components in a nearly $3,000 assembly. SUPPOSEDLY (I heard it through the grape vine.), some company has developed a repair kit. Anyone? Search? I'm the guy in "Canada" with the replacement shafts for the instrument clusters!!!!
  6. Hi Loren - I don't have those tools. Shall I install the pump and bring to a shop or just bring the pump with the car and leave it to the pros? Thanks, Ben I would find a shop with one of those tools. You need to run the ABS pump to clear the air from the new block and lines.
  7. Yes, they are all correct.
  8. Sounds like a bad ballast to me. Do a search for ballast.
  9. Please keep your posts on topic - Porsche's and Porsche related technical discussions - period.
  10. Found by searching "All TSBs" for "oil": http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...load&id=357 all i can see is first page out of 12 from this link Use your mouse wheel to scroll down through the other pages.
  11. Manuals do not get updates - TSB are for that. My MY1999 manual says 15W-40 Mobil 1. Which I am sure works but Porsche has removed it from the "approved" oils list. 4-5 years ago as I recall.
  12. Did you listen with the front wheels raised off the ground? Loren, Yes I did raise the car on jackstands wheels off. The noise can be produced only after putting weight back on the suspension (floor jack under disc) and jouncing the car up and down. Jouncing both sides made the noise while the other side was unsupported. I think it is coming from the left side of the rack somewhere under the rubber accordian cover. I'm wondering if there is a ball joint in there that might be worn or binding when it gets hot. Again there is no noise from moving the steering, only from vertical suspension movement. I was going to pop the tie rod end off and see if it still does it, but I only have a fork seperater and didn't want to damage the rod end by taking it off that way. I was hoping it was a common problem that someone could confirm rather than replace the rack without knowing for sure. I imagine it is a very expensive piece. I guess a trip to the dealer might be in order. Doug Davis I guess it could still be a bad upper mount or a bad strut. At this point you are likely going to have to disassemble them and look for damage/wear.

  14. Did you listen with the front wheels raised off the ground?
  15. The factory fill is Mobil 1 0W-40. Most owners use that or 5W-50 in either Mobile 1 or Castrol.
  16. Donations (not fees) support this site. We reward those that donate with a number features that normal members don't get to use. Contributing Members as said before can view TSBs online, they can use the Retail Price Search feature, and access the Contributors Members Only Forum. They can send attachments with PMs, image storage limits are raised for all Contributing Members, they can have their own RennTech.org email address and a their own personal Blog. TSBs are view only here. You can view them but you are not allowed to print or copy them. No copyright violation there - it is the same as loaning someone a book to read. Member fees? There are no member fees here - only member contributions to help cover the cost of operating this site. Operating costs include server leasing, software licenses (for the server) and bandwidth usage for this site. This site does not make any profit - all donated funds are used to pay the yearly bills of running this site. Over the last 6 years only once have we had enough donated money to cover the costs - the rest of the time the money comes out of my pocket. Less than 10% of the members here donate. Their generosity benefits all that use this site. No one (especially me) is making any money here. That includes admins and moderators who all very willingly donate their time and knowledge to helping folks out here. I hope that answers your questions...

  23. The threaded joint is number 22. I've checked a parts manual and the threaded joint is 999.230.541.10. The parts manual also states that the circlip for the theaded joint is 999.230.685.40 I just recieved a clip and it doesn't match at all what came out of the threaded joint. Is it possible that the warehouse just sent out the wrong part? The clip should be metal and circular and what I recieved is an open plastic piece that if squeezed together may form a circle however I have no idea how this will hold or even fit into the threaded joint. Thanks The threaded joint has changed 3 times so if you are trying to install it on the older version it may not work. Best to use both new parts.
  24. Can you tell me which part(s) you need?
