  1. Thank you again for your contribution. Sport exhaust for MY05-08 997-1 997.044.200.02 replaced 997.044.200.01 and 997.044.200.03 replaces both. So, 997.044.200.03 is the current part number.
  2. BTW... a single beep means there is a fault. Two beeps means there is an alarm failure.
  3. VarioCam To increase the torque and to improve cylinder charging, the engine has two VarioCam actuators which are installed in the chain tensioners of the camshafts. The two actuators are operated by electromagnetic valves activated by the DME control unit. Functioning When the ignition is switched on, the electromagnetic valves of the camshaft adjusters are supplied with positive potential. If the engine is started, the control unit applies ground to terminal 25 (camshaft adjuster for cylinder line 4 - 6) and to terminal 52 (camshaft adjuster for cylinder line 1 - 3) if the following conditions are fulfilled (VarioCam activated): 1 - Engine oil temperature between -3°C and 133°C 2 - Engine speed > 1,300 rpm 3 - Throttle opening > 5% or 1 - Engine oil temperature > 133°C 2 - Engine speed > 1,480 rpm 3 - Throttle opening > 3.9% The ground potential is deactivated by the DME control unit (VarioCam deactivated) if: Engine speed > 5,120 rpm
  4. :welcome: You will likely need the Durametric software, a PST2, or PIWIS tester to see what central locking/alarm faults you have. Do you get any beeps when you lock the car with the key fob?
  5. Yes, 4 camshafts. Yes, 4 valves per cylinder. From the MY99 Porsche Carrera Tech Book... "VarioCam, the adjustment of the intake camshafts at engine speeds of approx. 1,300 rpm* and 5,920 rpm, produces a major part of the engine output, the engine torque as well as the good exhaust values at idling speed. Engine speeds below 1,300 rpm produce a slight overlap in the valve stroke curves for the intake valves in relation to the exhaust valves. This particularly affects low proportions of hydrocarbons (HC proportions) in the exhaust gas before the catalytic converters. If the engine exceeds the 1,300 rpm mark *, the intake camshafts are adjusted by 12.5° (by 25° if measured a the crankshaft). Adjustment of the camshafts to produce a greater overlapping of the valve stroke curves for the intake and exhaust valves results in improved cylinder charging and thus an increase in engine torque. In the case of engine speeds above 5,920 rpm, the intake camshafts are returned to the basic control times (as for engine idling speed). If the intake valve closes later, additional amounts of intake air can be drawn in. This produces a recharging effect since the flow of air is not interrupted. This also results in improved charging of the cylinders and an increase in performance. * The value 1,300 rpm increases to 1,480 rpm with engine oil temperatures of approx. 133°C."
  6. In this case the O2 sensors are telling you where the problem is - they are not the cause of this problem. P0102 is all MAF. Either the MAF is not connected, or shorted out. The DME is not getting any data from the MAF - so either there is a wiring problem or the MAF is bad.
  7. TSB does only address headlights. But water in turn signals of a MY08- sorry but that is a warranty item. Hard to believe they would deny that claim. Any other dealers/OPCs close?
  8. TSB 10/04 W424 W424 – Modifying Ventilation of Main Headlights (Workshop Service Action) -- dated 9-24-04 "This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on certain 2003, 2004 and 2005 model year Cayenne (V6), Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo vehicles. Due to improper ventilation, there is the possibility that the cover lens of both main headlights could fog on the inside. To remedy the situation, a conversion must be made to the ventilation of both headlights. We ask that the aforementioned procedure be performed on the affected vehicles listed below during the Porsche Owner’s next visit to your workshop. Affected Vehicles: A total of 28,697 U.S. and 1,612 Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Service Action."
  9. Similar but not usually the same. What is you problem/fault code(s)?
  10. Try 8657 or 8655 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
  11. You need to also check the Annual Maintenance and the Additional Maintenance schedules - for additional requirements. Boxster (986) Maintenance Schedules - Additional Maintenance US (all years) says "Additional maintenance every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) Replace Polyrib belt"
  12. Thanks for the tip...never considered 'road dust' could be the culprit. I guess I need to get underneath the car and get an idea where things are located :P Tman Hi I also have the same problem on my 2005 987 rubber smell , also when i start the engine and until it reaches 80ºc a light metal vibration noise is noticed i don't now about the relation but any help is appreciated thanks in advance Your vibration is likely an exhaust heat shield. Have a look and see if any are bent and too close to something else.
  13. I corrected the link above - it should work now.
  14. Wrong switch - that is the brake switch (also used for the cruise control release). You need jumper item 16 jumper (and replace it if it is bad). 997.613.109.00
  15. Yes, Mobil 1 5W-40 is an approved oil.
  16. Yes, if you unplug the MAF the check engine light will come on (fault P0102). It can be cleaned (if you do not have a scan tool) by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Be sure you have your radio code handy and after a battery disconnect the engine will need to "re-learn" idle and your driving habits (usually in a few miles of driving).
  17. Porsche publishes a TSB once a year that lists "approved" oils. That list is currently 11 pages long. For the most part all the approved oils are 0W-40, 5W-40 and 5W-50. You do NOT want 0W-30 in your modern Porsche. popular approved brands are: Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, and Pennzoil Synthetic European Formula. Contributing Members here can view all the Porsche TSBs as well as many other special areas.
  18. Please read this and follow the instructions... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
  19. This is easy to test bypass the switch a jumper wire. Be careful because now the car will start without the clutch being depressed. If it always works then you need a new switch or it needs to be properly adjusted.
  20. It is the same as a 996 series car - the engine is just turned 180 degrees. How to change your oil and filter
  21. Try 4136 or 4134 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
  22. Try 7057 or 7055 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
  23. There is no idle valve on a MY99 C4 - all C4's had egas.
  24. :welcome: Please give our Search a try as this has been covered many times over. Reverse the battery for a few seconds - then put it back in the same way. If that does not work then either the circuit board inside the fob is worn out or somehow it has lost it's program. You can try to get a dealer to reprogram the key (they will charge you for this) or replace the key and have it programmed (again at a cost).
