  1. Sure a solvent should help loosen - and will burn off later. They are just little spline shafted bolts.
  2. Usually you can take a hammer (ball peen not a sledge) and tap these out. The when installing tightening the nuts will pull the new ones into place.
  3. It is not a short it is an "open". The brake wear circuit looks for a broken connection. Usually this is when a brake sensor wire wears through - but i can occur if a brake sensor has a bad connection or a wire gets broken. I think it best to inspect the brake pads and disc wear with the wheel off. You can also inspect (and even test) the brake sensors. I think a good wheel wheel inspection is your next task.

  5. Not sure about SS screws here - usually exhaust screws are alloy that can handle very high temperatures. SS is rated at <1000 degrees F whereas alloy bolts go over 1300 degrees or more. I would for sure use the Porsche locking nuts though - you don't need the nuts walking off.
  6. I would start with the valve cover gaskets and oil return tubes are the top spots for oil leaks on these engines. I would start there.
  7. Very odd - the program I have works 99.9997 % of the time. You can try two unit above and below the code I gave you (i.e. 9656 and 9652). In some of these rare cases that works.
  8. I do not think Durametic can activate it - but if you have access to one do that first. Otherwise you will need a PIWIS. Some options may require additional parts added first - and some options require an approval code from Porsche AG (even dealers/OPCs must show proof of payment to Porsche AG before activating some options).
  9. Try 9654 Thank you Loren I will try this afternoon Tried 9654 but doesnt seem to work, could it be anything else? Did you get the serial number using the method in the Lost Radio Code FAQ? That is the only way to be sure what the radio software thinks is the serial number. Please double check your serial number.

  11. Splash shield helps keep puddled water from splashing onto the disc as well as mud, dirt, oil, etc. It will have little to no affect removing these - and then I would only do that on a track only car.
  12. It is unfortunate but that series of cars (997-1) had some issues with all the new electronics... and sometimes it seems the control can just plain "get lost". The cure in many cases is a re-program to factory settings.
  13. If the PSE is connected per factory/TSB instructions then it does indeed have a "quiet zone". "If the PSE functions as intended, vacuum is present at the vacuum modulators at a speed of approx. 45 kmh / 28 mph to approx. 68 kmh / 42 mph." I believe this is do to laws in a few European counties - most people in the US do the by pass and/or add a switch for full control of the PSE.
  14. :welcome: Fuse - not easily accessed. I suggest you someone with Durametric software, a Porsche PST2, oe Porsche PIWIS diagnostic tool to read the alarm control units fault code(s). From this you will narrow the zone (trigger) that is causes the false alarms. Or it could even be a bad control unit (if it got wet). The alarm system, door locks, and drive block (immobilizer) are all part of one control unit - so disabling only one is very difficult.
  15. Yes - when I rebuild engines it is. Each part is individually balanced - then when assembled as a rotating mass - you balance it again for any harmonics that have been created by the rotating assembly. The Porsche replacement parts are going to fit within a spec range - that will minimize any balance issues. I guess you have to trust the third party company on that one.
  16. And your current pulley is balanced with the engine crankshaft and rods. If I were rebuilding the engine and re-doing the balancing I might consider it -- but otherwise I would skip it.

  18. You won't know for sure until they run diagnostics on it and at least try re-programming.
  19. The chain change was noted in the MY2001 Service Information Technik Book. So it was for sure in MY2001 models. Could it have been in some of the last MY2000 cars? I do not know but it would not surprise me.
