  2. You don't need the dealership any good Porsche shop has the Porsche diagnostic tools. I do not know of any way to test then without the Porsche tools.
  3. My understanding is that if the belt tensioner give a fault code then it has been fired and must be replaced. Your scan tool is not a Porsche specific diagnostic tool so I do not know if it is giving you a proper reading. A Porsche PST2 tester or PIWIS tester will tell you exactly which belt and whether or not it has been fired. Porsche also has a special cable that allows you simulate a firing to test the rest of the control circuit. You likely want to find a shop that has a Porsche tool and have them run a complete diagnostic on the car. It takes less than 30 minutes and will give you loads of information on all the Porsche specific control units in the car.
  4. As of MY2002 all Porsches have pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners. That means they are like an airbag - they fire once in an accident and they must be replaced. You will need to solve one problem at a time if you have any hope getting this car road ready again.
  5. You need to search the 996 and 986 forums only for the word "remote". When I did it I got 55 pages of results...
  6. Model on the front of the radio? (i.e. CD-xxx CDR-xx, etc.)
  7. Always helpful to add the exact model and year of your car - and radio in this case. Also whether the car has an amp, cd-changer, or DSP (also factory or 3rd party for each).

  9. You likely got the wait because one of the first 3 numbers was wrong. Try 6542
  10. I remember we did a RennTech.org Work on Cars Day and this young man was doing maintenance including oil and spark plugs. He had missing all on one bank and he was sure he had tightened the spark plugs and snapped the electrical connections tight. After further inspection he had forgotten to torque down the 3 spark plugs on that side of the engine - so it can happen.
  11. Porsche stopped using PST in 2004 and introduced PIWIS. Then PIWIS 2 and now PIWIS 3. All of which are backward compatible - for a price. $18,000 per year lease for a PIWIS.

  13. No, PST2 runs on a customized version of Windows 3.11. (That would be before Windows 95!)
  14. Did you pull the plug and inspect the coil and wiring?
  15. I do not think you are getting the Porsche specific fault codes. Misfires on one bank many times indicates a cam timing or solenoid issue. Best find someone with a Durametric or Porsche PST2 or Porsche PIWIS diagnostic tool.
