  1. Not according to my parts list... The 997 TT rotors are different numbers from the 997 2S and 4S.
  2. What computer? What does he want to reset? If you have PSM you need to have the steering angle sensor checked - perhaps that is what he means?
  3. All 986 and 996 had OBC. If you ordered it from the factory (or your dealer installed it) then you got a 4th steering wheel stalk. It can be "turned on" on any 986 or 996 using as PST2. I did so on mine, so now I have the outside temperature displayed in my cluster. I am just wondering if there is any relation between the OBC being on and being able to have full control of the AC/Heating. As I said when I turn mine off it stays off - and I have OBC on. If I can get to my PST2 I try to do some checking tomorrow (or Saturday - since they are painting in my house tomorrow I may not have access to my PST2).
  4. All modern Porsches (986, 987, 996, 997, 996GT3, 997GT3, 996TT, 997TT, Cayenne (except the V6)) use the same oil filter insert. The procedure for the 997TT is the same as the 996TT. The oil pan drain and the oil tank drain. Most folks don't drain the turbos since it is a lot more work and not that much oil is held there anyway. If you are talking about a vacuum system to remove the oil - I don't think those are approved by Porsche. You drain the oil the old-fashioned way through drain plugs.
  5. slope8888 and viper501 - by any chance is OBC turned on in your cars? (whether or not you have the 4th stalk does not matter)
  6. O2 sensors are in the cats not the muffler.
  7. Jeez... there is so much to check. Shock tower mounts (front trunk). Lower ball joints - by jacking the front end and then using a bar to lift the wheel while watching the ball joint for play. Swaybar bushings for wear and tightness. Cracked or front coil spring that is "out of place". Press down on each fender and let the car rebound to test the shocks (don't press so hard you dent the fender - I know someone that did that once).
  8. I'll try and check my '99 with my PST2 tomorrow. I don't recall a setting but mine stays off when I turn it off.
  9. IMHO... The easiest way is through the center console. The factory method is down through the door sill channel - but that requires removing a good deal of the interior (and take 2-3 times longer).
  10. List price is only $17 - Sunset Imports likely has it much cheaper. I would use the Drei-Bond (brand) that Porsche uses.
  11. Can you use the minus button to make it say "oFF"? What year is your car? I can't remember anything that is "settable" with the Porsche System Tester - but I'll have to look again.
  12. Potential problems are: No triggering of the actuator, active position nevertheless. – Short to ground – Actuator faulty Triggering of the actuator, no active position – Open circuit in triggering wire – Open circuit in B+ supply – Actuator faulty No active or passive position is detected – Actuator faulty Check the wiring harness and connectors - if they are ok then it is likely the actuator. Bank 2 is cylinders 4-5-6. In a Carrera that would be the right side (passenger side). The engine does not need to come out - but it is not that easy to get to if you have big hands like me.
  13. Driving straight does not mean that you don't have a broken or damaged coil springs or shocks. Could be a loose swaybar too. And, I have seen plenty of bad ball joints that drive straight (until the joint totally fails).

  15. For RHD cars only: 996.551.511.04.V01 (silver finish) 996.551.512.06.V01 (silver finish) Those may not be available anymore and you may have to order: 996.551.511.08 996.551.512.08 I think these are black finish though... check with your OPC. There is also a DIY refinishing article here

  18. The only one my 2003 Cup Car service manual calls out is 996.512.988.9A. You might check with Gert@Carnewal.com he has access to a lot more Porsche MotorSport part numbers than I do.

  20. The parts are exactly the same (as are many parts for the Boxster and Carrera).
