  1. :welcome: I think a cold air intake on a normally aspirated car is a waste of money. Regardless of what the maker may claim any horsepower increase will be quite small. None of these have ever been shown to make more than 2-5 HP in testing and some even cause loss of mid-range torque. A turbo engine is a different story. Thanks for the advice...would you suggest a Cat Bypass and Chip then or do you feel they would fall into the same category as the cold air intake? Those will make a difference on turbo car but not a normally aspirated engine. You will not get much more HP (less than 20) out of a normally aspirated modern Porsche engine. What are you trying to accomplish?
  2. Porsche workshop manuals are not free. You can buy manuals in sections from PIWIS TSI. PWIS TSI = Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System - Technical Service Information I would not buy any 2009 model manuals yet because they are still writing them and what you buy will likely be incomplete. It usually takes Porsche about 1 year to deliver a completed manual. And, no you do not get to download the completed version free after updates - you have to buy it again.
  3. Can you elaborate? If the struts alone are the same length and/or provide the same ride height as those being replaced, how would the alignment specs be modified? Because of what you have to remove and disconnect to replace the struts. Springs do not always line up the same when you put them back - so even ride height changes (small but it does change).

  5. According to Castrol -- Autozone, Walmart and Kragens all carry Castrol Edge. Mobil does not list 5W-40 Mobil 1 as being sold in the US.

  7. Are you sure it is the belt and not a pulley? I would check the pulleys to see if any "wobble".
  8. From the Porsche MY1999 (intro year) Service Technik Book (available here to our Contributing Members). "Retractable Rear Spoiler The spoiler stabilizes the air-flow at the rear-end of the vehicle by means of a defined burbling of the air-flow while simultaneously increasing the pressure around the front of the rear spoiler. This reduces both drag and rear-axle lift. An additional side-effect of this increase in pressure is an increase in the volume of air drawn in by the engine as well as in the flow of air through the engine compartment ventilation system whose inlets are located at the rear lid. At low speeds, aerodynamics play only a minor role in the composition of road resistance values. For this reason, the spoiler is only extended at approx. 75 mph and is retracted again at approx. 37 mph.As a result of detailed and intensive work on the aerodynamics, it has been possible to reduce the size of the spoiler on the new 911 Carrera compared to a"that of the old 911 Carrera."
  9. 7 years on your battery - wow, now that is living on borrowed time. Most batteries last 4-5 years. Yes, you can donate using a credit card. Just click on the "Continue" link that says "Don't have a PayPal account?". My first Porsche battery experience was in 1975 - just bought a 71 911T from my brother. He left the country and then the car wouldn't start. Went to the dealer and found out that there were two 6 volt batteries to be replaced - one in each front fender well. Maybe $160 ($80 each??) but in 1975 that was a lot of money to me. that's a ton of dough for batteries esp given that a brand new 996 battery 2009 costs $120. I replaced the battery in my MY99 in 2004 - so I was lucky and got 5 years. At that time I paid $69 for an Autozone battery. It is now just about 5 years later and the Autozone battery is still fine - still I expect to replace it by the end of the year. And the price is now $89.
  10. Unless the person cutting the key is incompetent - a copy from the original will always work... and they/you can test it before you pay for it.
  11. Sounds like some insulating foam may have come loose and is hitting the fan. If you have small hands you might be able to reach in from the filter side (filter removed and fan off) to see if you can remove it.
  12. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and is submerged during normal operation. Could be water or other contaminate in the fuel too.
  13. based on my experience/research when my airbag light came on, it came down to replacing the passenger side buckle. i had tried to avoid the expenditure by resetting the light a couple of times at the deadership, but it always ended up coming back on. i believe the updated buckle has some sort of gold plating, not sure, but i remember the job was more expensive than i though it'd be. i had the dealer help me find out which buckle was triggering the light and just replaced that one side. if it comes on again and the driver side buckle is causing the airbag light to come on, i'll deal with it if and when that time comes. i also believe porsche released a service bulletin around this issue. i'm not sure exactly what years it impacts. Ben - Yes, Porsche issued a TSBs on this (which you now access to as a Contributing Member). They are: TSB 1/04 6924 Airbag Warning Light Comes On: Fault Codes 45, 46, 48 and 49 -- dated Jul 21, 2004 and TSB 0201 6924 Seatbelt Buckle Airbag Warning Light -- dated Oct 11, 2002 Buckles need to be replaced and ground solder joints need to be re-done.
  14. It will need to be done by a shop with a PIWIS tester. All dealers/OPCs have PIWIS testers but some independent shops also have them.
  15. I need to know the interior color to get you right part number.

  17. Sorry, Porsche car harnesses are custom made for each car - so if your car did not have power seats to start with then wires simply are not there. Changing a full car harness is not something you want to do - if you do plan on 2-4 days (8-10 hours per day).
  18. These are not free - you have to buy them.

  20. If the leak is where he is describing it - then it is not RMS.
  21. Answered many times here if you care to try our Search. Only Durametric Software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester can turn off an air bag light.
  22. Try 4715 or 4713 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST Hi again, I have tried both codes, either do not work, any ideas??? Thanks Yes. READ the FAQ.
