    If you are sure it is only the power steering ( I still suggest that do you what said) then you likely have a bad power steering pump bearing. That means a new pump.

    Pretty much the same as the 986 and 996 - front passenger side near the battery.

    No, no no. Not even close. 997-1 and 997-2 even use different different control units - tied into the CAN bus. At minimum he will need a control unit from a 997-2 - figure out the wiring and program it with a PIWIS tester..

    That fan should only turn on when the engine is very hot. The DME turns it on based on the air temperature in the engine compartment. Perhaps a previous owner wired it to be on all the time? A PST2 or PIWIS tester can tell for sure whether it is an electrical fault or what.

    :welcome: Are you sure it is your engine fan? Not sure about RoW Scotland cars but US/Canada cars have a secondary air pump that runs for about 2 minutes at every cold start (for emissions).

    Disconnect each sensor one at a time and measure the resistance across the two connectors. If they read open (infinite resistance) then they are bad.

    Loren, Thank you very much - clarify before i check those items mentioned - i have a 200 996 cabriolet - Not a 996 Turbo! Thank you again, Then the answer is - no, a completely different mechanism. You posted in the 996 Turbo section. Best ask your question in the 996 Carrera section.

    You can only get your IPAS codes from a Porsche dealer - and then VIN and with proof of ownership. They are unique to each car. You will need the IPAS codes to program the immobilizer for keys. If the old immobilizer can not be read (with a PST2 or PIWIS tester) then you will need the 40 digit code that is unique to each key (to program thekeys to the new immobilizer.
