  1. The engine speed sensor is in the flywheel housing - follow the cable from there and run your tests at the connector on the cable.
  2. No the oil pressure sensor is only about as large as you see and can be replaced with the engine in place. Are you really asking about the oil level sensor?
  3. PIWIS is a Porsche diagnostic tester and tool. It is custom for Porsches and can diagnose many faults as well as rule out false problems.
  4. If he suspects a bad solenoid (in the Tiptronic) why did he not run the Tiptronic tests on PIWIS?

P0335 Engine Speed Sensor Signal – Open Circuit Possible fault cause - Corrosion in the connector - Open circuit or short circuit in the wiring harness - RPM/crankshaft position sensor faulty. - DME control module faulty Check RPM/crankshaft position sensor. Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2. Result: 0.8 - 1.0 k Ω at 20 °C. Measure resistance between pins 1 and 3. Result: ∞ Ω Replace if not met. ------------------------------------------- P0349 Camshaft position sensor 2 - open circuit Possible fault cause - Camshaft rotor (phase sensor wheel) damaged Fix the P0335 first then see if this one re-appears.

  7. 1. No, but the front axles would need to come out. You will need to press out the flanged shaft. The new seal will require a special seal seating tool. 2. Not sure what you mean by bushings but it sound like there is play in the cardan shaft or the bearing has gone. I suggest you find a good Porsche shop and have them put it up on a lift and confirm what is wrong.
  8. Update - June 18 Adding images has been fixed so all can now add images. Editing images is still being worked on so a workaround would be to delete the image and then add the new image. There should be several bug fixes in the few days.
  9. This is a less than 15 minute job that requires only a 10 mm wrench. Take the broken lens off - transfer the bulbs to the new lens and reconnect the wiring plugs - reinstall. Done. You can likely do this yourself.

  11. No, 0W-30 oils are approved by Porsche. I would stick with the approved by Porsche oils (OW-40 and 5W-40, and 5W-50).
  12. Porsche updates parts all the time so I think they likely sold you the correct newest coils. My parts list was updated the last week in May - dealers get daily updates.
  13. Anytime you jump start a modern car you take a risk of blowing electronic components. Make sure they removed the battery - load tested it on a machine and then took specific gravity readings of each cell. That is the only way I know to thoroughly test a battery. If the battery is 4 years old or older I would replace it anyway.
  14. From the 996 Carrera Service manual: Nominal test values: Stationary engine 3.8 ± 0.2 bar Engine idling 3.3 ± 0.2 bar Looks pretty right on to me.
  15. Simple Test: If you want to see if your alternator is producing current, turn on your headlights when you're parked and the engine idling with the headlights shining on a wall (at night). Notice how bright they are. Then turn the engine off. The lights should get dimmer when you turn the engine off. If the lights get brighter when you kill the engine, the alternator was not charging sufficiently. When doing this test, the lights should be the only load (turn the stereo, a/c and other accessories off). With a heavy load, an otherwise good alternator may not be able to produce sufficient amounts of current at idle.
  16. You need to find the cause of the oil in the spark plug well. I would replace any coil packs that are oil soaked and any that are not the latest version (948.602.104.05). Use a good torque wrench and be very careful not to over torque the coil packs..
  17. Currently there is a permissions bug that will not allow you to add images or edit images for your vehicle. Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to have this fixed in a few days.

  21. Check ignition coil(s) again. Cracks are hard to see sometimes. Resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 15 at 20°C it should be 0.3 - 0.7 ohms. If the coils are fine then inspect the plugs and the connectors on the coils for damage or corrosion. Remember you can always swap a part to the next cylinder to see if the fault follows the part (spark and coil pack).
  22. I agree with jyoteen - the spec is 6.0 - 9.0 ftlb. That is not much at all on those tiny screws.
