  1. Start here... sounds like a water filled brake booster.
  2. Are you sure it is the pad wear warning and not low fluid warning?
  3. Thanks for clarifying Richard.
  4. On a 986/996 there are four key registers. With a PST2 or PIWIS you can delete registered keys, so there is no need to replace the control module. You just delete the key from a register, and add a new one. Richard, I have not seen a car with all four positions taken (yet). Correct me if I am wrong but don't you also need the the old key to delete it? Or is there an overwrite capability?
  5. :welcome: The vacuum pump relay is position 2/6 in the E-box.
  6. Loose sway bar or bad CV joint come to mind...
  7. Follow the Brown wires to the chassis points shown. I don't think there is anything else.
  8. Loren how many ground points does this car have and how can i find them? Thank you. (click to enlarge)
  9. I agree with jjb7 - start by checking the fluid level (and condition).
  10. Multiple modules - multiple faults - all electrical -- points towards power and or ground problems. Alternator output voltage?
  11. Lots of communication faults - how old is your battery? Have your battery both load tested and specific gravity tested. Also check the chassis ground points to make sure they are not corroded.
  12. Can you post the actual fault code numbers and what diagnostic tool did you use?
  13. Is there a fault code associated with this?
  14. It would be helpful if you told us the exact model and year of your car. Also the fault codes that you currently have.
  15. The car should start and idle without the MAF. You will get a fault for the missing MAF but the car will run fine up to about 4000 RPM - then it needs the MAF. I do not think the MAF is your problem.
  16. As long as the seat is out and the connection to the seat belts is "missing" you will get an airbag light. " If it's seatbelt related, couldn't I get a spare receptacle and plug the seatbelt into that to prevent the light from coming on?" Yes.
  17. You do not need to wait 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery 5 minutes will do. Also, remove the key from the ignition switch - the moment the key is in the ignition the airbag system starts. You are trying to override a government required safety system - it is not not to be easy. Other than the resistor trick - I do not know a way to "fool" the system. So black tape over the light works for some folks too...
  18. Yes, other airbags should work fine. Some racer/track hounds use a resistor to simulate the airbag - do a search here for that. You can clear it Durametric but it will keep coming back on until the issue is fixed (or jumpered).
