  1. Could be a loose support mount or ball-bearing housing or the spacer not fully seated. Your car is pretty new to be having this sort of problem so I would consider taking it back to whomever installed the RoW M030 and asking them to check their work.
  2. According to My-Porsche.com these are no longer available. You can down a free copy of the MY03 manual (which will be pretty close) from Suncoast Porsche at Suncoast Manuals
  3. The PSE vacuum operated valves are normally open. That is, they are loud by default. The vacuum operated valves are actuated by either the switch or the Speedometer A signal (which triggers them at 30-40 MPH) switching a solenoid. The electronic solenoid in the engine compartment switches and applies the vacuum or vents. The lines that run to the very hot exhaust area are stainless steel braided lines so heat should not hurt them. I personally chose to not install the vacuum lines and electronics and leave the exhaust open all the time. (That will save you about 8 hours of labor!). And, I don't think it is too loud open all the time :D :D :D
  4. Here is my advice. If your car has had a RMS replaced before then you could still be in line for a new engine (at no cost). It all comes down to the seal test and the cars history. This is a known problem and Porsche has replaced many main seals on out-of warranty cars. Talk to your dealer - get any history or records you have to back up your case... and if the dealer turns you down ask to talk to a regional PCNA rep.
  5. Be sure to use some protective material on the mirror base. Set the pliers with the protecting parts to the windshield to the diameter of the mirror base and secure to the mirror base. Turn the rearview mirror through 90 degrees at the mirror base using the pliers. Then, unclip the base of the interior rearview mirror from the retainer plate on the windshield. When you reinstall the mirror be careful not to go beyond the 90 degrees locking point. If you remove the mirror base from the windshield you will need a special cleaning/glue kit from Porsche to reinstall it.
  6. Group size is 48. Try to get at least a 700 CCA or better yet 850 CCA.
  7. If it is a trickle charger you are likely ok. Just remember that charging causes the battery to give off gases so it would be best to open the trunk. Also, charge very slowly to avoid bubbling the acid out the vents. If you need to do a rapid change then it is safest to remove the battery before charging.
  8. The most common case of (non-engine) noise in the rear of the car is the rear swaybar. Sometimes they can come loose and squeak or even thump. Since this is a new car have your dealer investigate it further. (I am assuming that you hae not made any suspension mods).
  9. From what I know and heard from others that is true. All the plastic windows are installed at the dealership as they are fitted -- mainly due to stretching of the tops. It usually takes a couple of days as they put the top on first and let it stretch then the dealer uses a special heating tool that forms the seal around the top. Jeff (aka ToolPants) has actually seen them do this. I would say that if you do not have a clean, fault free seal on your new window they should replace the top and window until they get it right. If that dealer can not do it right they should offer to fix the car at a dealership that can. (IMHO of course)
  10. 996 613 147 00 A02 is the sun roof switch and it has three functions. One switch opens and closes the sun roof tilt. The other switch functions rock back and forth to open the sun roof (all the way) or close the sun roof. It is physically larger than any of the front console (dash) panel switches. So, it would not fit in the batwing. 996 613 157 10 A05 is the Targa Roof switch which normally resides in the batwing. So, it would fit. It is a rocker that opens the Targa roof in one direction and closes in the other. So, you could just wire one side of the switch. Now for the bad news. The Targa Roof switch only comes in the A05 black matt finish whereas all the other switches in your car (and all MY 99-01 cars) are glossy black finish.
  11. The last TSBs I have for Cayenne are dated Sept 19, 2003. So there are likely some on the way. There was a revision in March that was temporary fix so this final fix was expected. These fixes actually come as PST2 software updates -- so only a dealer (or shop that has a subscription) can install these. The PST2 holds all the master programs for DME, Instrument Cluster, PCM, etc.
  12. Don is correct the PSE has valves to open close the bypass ports. See below.
  13. I can but it does not include instructions for removing the console. The B&M short shifter instructions are really quite good for this (B&M Instructions here).
  14. Since your car is still under warranty you might as well let the dealer fix this. This is a known problem on some cars -- refer them to TSB 01/02 5717 Noises in Door Lock Area (dated 8-16-02) and/or TSB 3/00 7059 Noises In The Door/Door Trim Panel Area (dated 6-30-00).
  15. All MY00 C2's would be egas cars... so the sensor is different.
  16. Yes, except dealers are quoting $715    There is a TSB (for TT and C4S) now for installing it.
  17. The part number for all C2's (without egas) from 98 through 99 is 996 606 123 00. My guess is you got a C2 (with egas) or C4 MAF which is 996 606 124 00. They are definitely different. Just an FYI the MAF for all MY02 and newer is 996 606 125 01.
  18. Sorry, according to the parts list... part numbers are different for rotors, calipers and the connecting lines between inside and outside calipers. And, of course pads.
  19. Great hack Ed... I pinned this so it will be easy for everyone to find.
  20. Eric, You've got mail... or you can use the B&M Short Shifter Instructions here
  21. :welcome: You've got mail...
  22. See my DIY here and get a good set of ball-end metric allen wrenches. An off-center socket extention will make it easier also. I think it's easier on a 996 (less stuff to remove). ;)
  23. The service manual shows for up to model year 01 that you change the plugs at 30,000 miles. Make sure you use the newer style plugs 999 170 207 91 (14FGR 6KQU). Or, the latest Porsche recommends. Porsche changed the interval on the newer cars in MY01 (to 60,000 miles) but left the older cars at 30,000.
  24. The parts list shows the part numbers for: Fire Extinguisher - 993 722 115 70 Spacer Sleeve - 996 722 211 90 Plug - 996 722 213 90 Sorry, there is not a listing for the bolts (that I can find). Perhaps they come with the fire extinguisher and bracket?
  25. Yes, I will need to know for sure about the comfort seats as they get a different part number (more switches in the base). Removal is pretty much the same loosen (they just need to be loosened not removed) the hex head screws and lift up to disconnect the electrical connections.
