  1. Porsche trademark. You will find it on a number of things (like your muffler(s)).
  2. 000 044 700 26 Retrofit kit, shortening of shift travel including mounting elements. It shows in the latest (October 2003) RoW parts list. My advice... buy the B&M Short Shifter. Same shifter - 1/3 the price.
  3. Group size is 48. Try to get at least a 700 CCA or better yet 850 CCA. There is another thread here on the Optima battery. You will need to modify the holddown if you go with Optima. I think a better fit for 996 is the Optima 34R which put the battery post on the right sides and doesn't require any cable rerouting or changes.
  4. Relay Box -- 1) Remove the fuse panel cover and the carpet cover itself by removing four screws. Release the relay carrier above the fuse panel by releasing a clip on the left and a 10mm nut on the right. 2) Pull it down so you can rotate it around to see the back. The seat comes out easily if you have the E12 External Torx socket -- 4 bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the battery -- just in case.
  5. Correct. If you do not connect the reverse wire then your distances/directions may tend to be "off" by some amount. I would connect it and run the wire under the center console.
  6. The reverse signal wire is under the drivers seat (see diagram). Look for a spot weld with several BK/BL wires. These wires are the reverse gear signal. You will need to splice into any one of these wires and then insulate (tape) well. They recommend running the wire from the Nav through the side panel and up the A pillar -- but I know folks that have run it up the center console. Speedometer A signal is the speed from the instrument cluster. It is the same signal used for the PSE. The easiest place to get this is Relay Support 1 (the relay panel down by your left foot), Position 23 (bottom row, first relay on the left), Bridge Support Connector 1. The Speedometer A signal is the GR/PK wire.
  7. Kevin, Do you mean the Speedometer A wire or do you mean the reverse wire? I thought the Nav needed the reverse wire?
  8. There are two Boxster TSBs that mention a P1123 fault. One has to do with water in the air cleaner and the other one has to do with a cracked or leaking oil filler hose. If you want a copy of these TSBs then PM me your private email address.
  9. I'm a little further South -- in Morgan Hill. I should be home all day Sunday with computer projects, PM if you want directions.
  10. You need Becker radio keys to remove the radio. Both Jeff and I have a set if you need to borrow them. DO NOT pay $15 or more on eBay for these -- they are $1.80 from Becker! (photo courtesy of Tom Morris)
  11. Congrats to Orient Express for having this months Featured Porsche of the Month in the Garage. Check out his car and all the cars in the Garage!
  12. I think they do sell the standard wheel bolts individually. It's the wheel locks that are sold in sets of four.
  13. It's pretty straight forward. Here is a link to a kit to plug the holes. (It's actually a rollbar kit). Kit
  14. Just got a bunch of TSBs today. There is now a Short Shifter TSB for Carrera, Boxster and TT.
  15. Bill, Larry Reynolds is still the guy. He should know what is safe to use on the plastic headlight covers. Try emailing him at: sales@carcareonline.com
  16. The parts lists I have do not show PSS-9s for C4S... so you are going to have to rely on Gert (Carnewal) or another PSS-9 source. I can tell you that the factory swaybars are the same from a C4 to a C4S but the shocks and springs are different. And, they are still slightly different that a TT.
  17. These are the standard wheel bolts (not locking bolts). 16 per car -- plus 4 locking bolts. Up to MY00: 996 361 203 00 MY 01 on (but not C4S): 996 361 203 01 Sorry, I do not have pricing.
  18. Larry Reynolds at Car Car Specialties has some great DIY finish tips. Check out the one on overspray here
  19. Yes. When you buy plugs from your dealer (in the Porsche official boxes) and open them, they could be either Bosch or Beru.
  20. Yes, the stabilizers should work fine. They mount slightly different but they are the same bar.
  21. Actually Porsche recommends 17 wheels and not wider than 265 in the rear. Christophorus should have a listing in the last issue. If you need a copy let me know and I'll email you the "Approved Winter Tire and Wheel" TSB.
  22. There is a TSB for MY97 - MY00 Boxsters that states a P1128 and P1130 codes are potentially caused by an air leak in the oil filler hose. P1128 by itself is usually a faulty oil filler cap seal. Let me know if you want a copy of the TSB.
  23. I am working with Gert to figure out the correct wiring (or pins to move). You will need a pin removal tool to do this. When we tried this last weekend the Bi-Xenons plugged in fine and the low beams lit right up... unfortunately the high beams did not come on (lights stayed on low beams) nor did the fog lights come on. You will not be able to retrofit the auto-level since you would have to run a new wiring harness and sensors to each wheel. Stay tuned I think we can make this work...
  24. Yes., but you need special tools to control the amount of pressure. If your dealer says it's leaking they should have done the pressure test. Many dealers will replace the tank for free since this is a known problem and Porsche has changed the tank 3 or 4 times. The coolant should be checked when the engine is cold and the car is level. The fluid level must lie between the "Min." and "Max."markings. Sorry, perhaps someone else can reply on this one. If the noise is actually at the front windshield then there is a TSB to replace the windshield seal. If the noise is in the dash there is a 9 page TSB that a series of fixes depending on the problem area. Do you mean front console or dash? If anything in the front center console has been changed then it is likely that something is loose. If it is the dash then TSB I mentioned above should cover it. There are a couple more TSBs that cover A pillar noises. Most of them are for creaking or cracking noises not wind noise. Have you checked the weather stripping around the window? and are you sure the window is all the way up? If not, there is a special adjustment procedure to raise the window all the way up.
