I am looking to get a PSE for my 99 996. I know that there are earlier versions with the small pipe, and later versions with the large pipe, that both fit my year of car.

Question, do I need any specific brackets when installing either on my car. If so, what is the Porsche part number?

Is there are any benifits to getting the large pipe over the small pipe?

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Either will work fine and the muffler hanger should be on each muffler. You will need to transfer the exhaust tips from your old muffler to the new ones.

I personally think the small tube PSE has a littler better sound but they are very close.

Loren - Do you happen to know when Porsche switched from the small pipe to the large pipe?
Well, I am not sure of the exact timing but the Tequipment part number changed when they switched. For example my small tube PSE is 000.044.200.08 while there have been several big tube PSE's. So, a part number of 000.044.200.19 or .20 or .21 would all be big tube exhausts.

Adam,

The muffler hanger on the latest PSE is not compadible with the bolt pattern of the mounting bracket. You'll need to swap the hanger off your old muffler & onto the new PSE muffler in order to mount on your body year. So word of advice, don't trash your old muffler...as the original hanger from your old muffler is no longer available to order seperately.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for your help. I ended up getting the small pipe version, so I should be all set. Can't wait!!

Thanks again,

Hi,

It's strange, I've never seen this part number... As far as I know, the parts numbers for the PSE 996 is 996.111.985.0x and 996.111.984.0x. The last number varies, but I can't work out why (year of production, different versions...?).

Is it also possible to choose between large and small pipes on a Carrera 4S ? A salesman suggested a large-pipe version, saying it was the loudest (112dB).
