I have a 2000 Boxster with standard headlights. The problem is this, I have no low beam lights and the high beams will only operate in the “passing” mode. In other words when I switch the high beams to the on I get nothing at all.

I have replaced all bulbs. The driving lights work fine, fuses are good.

Ideas? Thanks.

I just got nearly the same symptom, except that the high beams still operate. I've been driving home at night with the driving lights and fog lights on. Fuses all appear to be good too. Both low beams went out overnight, driving home was fine, next morning, gone. Almost seems like the headlight switch, but everything else is working. This is a 2002 Boxster S, 6 speed.

I've got the same problem. I just purchased a 2002 boxster and on the way home as it was getting dark I turned on the lights and parking only. I cycled (pulled) the switch out a couple of times to the fog and rear fog position and then the low beams came on. I ran a while on low and took the turn/beam switch on the column to high and the lights went out. Now I have no low beam, highs come on in passing mode (pulling on turn signal switch but pushing to high nothing. I ran home on my fog lights and parking lights. Did you get a solution to your problem? I have the litronic I think.

turns out, for "some reason", both low beam bulbs went out at the exact same time. Since there does seem to a pattern in the posts describing this situation, my electrical engineering brain says that it is quite possible that the switch itself is causing the burn outs, either through arcing/poor insulation between contacts, improper switch design, or inadequate load carrying capacity. In my case, replacing two expensive bulbs was the "fix". We'll see how long it lasts. If these go out again, simultaneously, within the year, Porsche will be getting a call.

Alride,

Were you able to resolve your problem? What was the cause? I've got a 2002 boxster with litronic with the same issue.

I'm going to take mine to the dealer. I hope it is still under warranty. I'm the third owner and I think the 4 years is up the end of may. I need to check in with the local dealer anyway to get a baseline on the car. I think both bulbs are blown also but I don't know what from. The switch does sound suspect.

I have seen the wire come out of the connector mount for the headlights in at least a couple cases. After you take the headlight out inspect the connector and pins on the socket (still on the car) to see that they are secure and pushed in all the way.

My low beams were out yesterday. (I saw them came on, then both immediately went off) I suspect it is a bad headlight switch.

Is changing the switch a DIY proposition? What would the dealer charge for it?

Thanks,

Toby

i have the same problem with my `00 S in europe. no low beam, high beam operates in "passing" mode only.

the whole thing started with the low beam coming on with a delay of a couple of seconds after switching on the headlights. over a month or so the delay became longer and eventually the low beam wasn´t operating at all. parking lights and fog lights are working fine.

seems to be a common problem. hope the dealer has to replace the light switch only.

In my previous car, which used the same H7 bulbs, I put in a pair of SilverStars. I also put a pair in the 'fog' lights.

Both of the H7s and one of the 2006s burned out within a day of eachother. I went out for my lunch (dinner) at work after dark, and the second low beam blew. Luckily I live close to work, so I just turned on the fogs (only one bulb!) and got home, then called work and said I wouldn't be back since I had no headlights.

If they're the same brand bulbs, both burning out at the same time might just be consistency - they both lasted exactly the same amount of time!

If you need to in a pinch, the fogs in the Boxster use the same H7 bulbs as the low beams. Swap them if you can't find any H7s in short order.
