Rear window replacement?

Hi guys~

Two days ago, my rear plastic window got broken (actually, torn), as I opened in the cold wether. How stupid I am! :oops: It was frozen I guess.

Now I tape it and am looking for the new rear window.

Is it possible to change a rear window alone?

If not, how much does it cost to change a whole soft top in a local dealer?

Sit down. Last time I checked a new top from the dealer was in the $1,800 range - plus labor to put it in.. You can get an aftermarket top for about $450 from several companies. I have never seen the aftermarket tops, but the shop foreman at my dealer said he has seen a good one.

Or, you can have a new plastic window sewn in. Your dealer will not do this as they replace the entire top. Ask your dealer for the name of a local shop who will replace just the window. Jeff

Or, for the $1,800 you would spend plus labor, you can take the $2,500 and get a hardtop and not worry about this in the future! :)

Two weeks ago I also cracked the rear window in my Boxster. It was 48 degrees.

The local Porsche shop agreed it shouldn't have cracked, so they replaced it under warranty.

Since this seems like a recurring problem with the Boxsters, I checked pricing. Full top replacement through my dealer is $3500. Window only replacement through a local upholstery shop is $800.

My rear window cracked also and the dealer wants to install a new top. Where could I find an aftermarket top? Any websites or retailers selling quality tops?

Do you know how much they would charge to install it? (dealer or local upholstery)

Try http://www.gahh.com. Many folks over on PPBB have bought their German canvas tops ($562) and they say it looks exactly the same as a factory soft top.
