Thinking about purchasing an OBD tool so I can read the codes when the CEL comes on and be able to reset as well.

What type do y'all reccomend and what should I expect to pay?

Thanks Loren. So for about $125 you got the software AND the cable required to hook up to the car. Did you just install the software on your laptop and then plug the laptop to the car?

Yes, exactly!

You can download the software from the website. Then just wait for the cable to arrive. Seems like he does updates about every month or two.

A PST2 tool allows the dealer (or whomever has one) to program and change features of the car (for example...the OBC). A much more powerful tool than an OBD tool (used more for code listing when the CEL is on).

I bought a DigiMoto kit (www.digimoto.com) and it works great too. Nice displays and can be used on a laptop or handheld PC. It can also be used while driving to display your torque, horsepower, 0-60 times, etc. The kit is a small box, 1 cable to go from the box to the OBD-II port, and 1 cable to go from the box to the laptop. Very simple to use. They sell cheaper on e-bay than through their website.

my99boxster,

can you clear code with DigiMoto kit? Also, with OBD scan tools do they have the capabilities to change functions of the vehicle such as, auto lock on car as soon as you it 15mph? Curious. Thanks!

LVDELL,

Thanks!  but I thought some or most of the aftermarket scan tools can atleast reset error codes??

The scan tools software I mentioned can reset DME codes. The airbag fault code is not a DME code. Few aftermarket scan tools can access or clear faults in other onboard systems - mainly because every manufacturer has different faults for different systems. ABS, PSM, Tiptronic, Airbag, Roll-over protection (Cabs), Alarm system, A/C and heating system, PCM, Instrument Cluster, and even Parking Assistant can generate Porsche only codes that can only be seen or cleared with a PST2.
