Hi

a newbie here with a 99 C2

i read the manual and search the forum about process of removing headlight assembly but i can't seem to do it :(

i get that tool and turn it as indicated in the manual but headlight does not even budge a bit

i get empty turns

my questions is

does headlight suppose to pop out as you turn the tool (under some sort of tension?)

or do i need to pry it out?

help, help :help: :help:

thanks for any inputs

Jon

If you turn the tool in the correct direction then the headlight will start to slide out of the fender.

Sometimes the tool is a bit too large and will just turn without rotating the locking bar. If that is the case then try a 5 mm six point socket.

thank you very much you guys for quick replies

our manual asks to start with the 'tongue' of the tool facing the rear of the car then rotate so that it points front of the vehicle, this process will UNLOCK the assembly

well, i was careless and did not read the manual carefully the first time around and just rotated the tool numerous times in circles hoping to hear a 'pop' or some other unlocking click.

now my question is,

1. i don't know where to begin now that i no longer know my 'starting point'

2. when i turn with the tool, i get empty turns almost as if i was turning a stripped bolt, could i have stripped the locking mechanism by rotating it randomly as i did in the very beginning ( how stupid :P )?

thanks guys but any help is really appreciated

The tool is only rotated a few degrees in either direction to unlock or unlock the headlight. You do not rotate the tool around and around. There is not starting or ending point.

You can see in this photo what the tool actually does - If you look close to where the red dot is, the tool rotates the bar which extends horizontally beneath the headlight assembly. The kink in the bar in the middle is actually where it engages the headlight assembly.

The tool might not be engaging correctly - you may want to have a look down the hole before inserting the tool with a torch etc.

Make sure that you are in the right hole. The others are for adjusting the aim of the headlight and those will rotate as opposed to the headlight release lever.
