Engine Compartment Fan

Recommended Posts

I've never heard or seen my engine compartment fan come on. At the track , I've heard the C4 fans come on after the car is turned off and parked. My friend's 996 Turbo fan also does the same thing. Is the '99 C2 different? Does it only come on when the engine is running? I checked the fuse and its good. Maybe this is why my water temp was high.

Thanks.

Not that I am a expert but on my car it usally comes on after I start up for a short run. It also come on when the car is sitting still. I do not see how this fan will reduce water temp. I think it pushes air in the enging comparment. The old 911 air cools would stay cool under the hood due to the engine fan. It may also come on more due to the areo wing. Does not seem to have too big of a grill. My car is a 99 c2 with aero pkg

Here are all the fan conditions for Carreras:

Switch-on conditions for coolant or condenser blower motors (front fender fans)

Stage 1 is switched on when the coolant temperature is > 100 degrees C

or

there is an A/C demand, the intake air temperature is > 8 degrees C and terminal 15 is switched on.

Stage 2 is switched on when the coolant temperature is > 105 degrees C

or

the refrigerant pressure is > 16 bar.

Switch-on conditions for engine compartment fan (this fan pulls air into the engine compartment)

The engine compartment fan is switched on when the engine compartment temperature is > 80 degrees C

or

the coolant temperature is> 102 degrees C.

After-running of engine compartment fan

If the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is more than 60 degrees C , the DME control module remains in readiness for another 20 minutes. During this time, the engine compartment temperature is retrieved every 10 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is > 85 degrees C , the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is still > 85 degrees C after this time, the fan remains on for a further 30 seconds.
