For the Cayenne S and TT only:

The drain plug is on the bottom lowest part of the engine case.

The oil filter, O-ring and sealing ring are the same as the 996, 986, GT2, GT3, and TT:

996 107 225 52 Filter (with O-ring)

900 123 106 30 Aluminum Sealing Ring

The Cayenne (V6) is a completely different filter and plug.

I'll see if I can dig up some images to put a DIY together.

There are two drain plugs on the S and TT. Both are removed and new seal rings are used.

The filter element housing has an O ring which is replaced with the filter. There is a break in the housing threads that permits using a tool to remove the O ring without damaging the threads.

The plastics must be removed and replaced to change the oil.

Haven't removed the covers yet to look but are the TWO drain plugs pretty self explainatory? Why two? Glad the filters are the same as GT3- can stock up!

Loren,

as usual, thanks again. Have a project for this weekend now- taking off the panels underneath so I can look at the engine!!

Loren,

I have a pump oil extractor that I purchased from Griots Garage that I have used for my other vehicles. Can this be used for my Cayenne S? Would it get all the oil even though it appears that there are 2 oil reservoirs? Also, where is the oil filter?

Thanks.

No, the second sump has about two quarts of oil. It is easy enough to pull the plastic and remove the plugs. The filter is right up front. Can't miss it once the plastic is off.

Going to investigate under the vehicle this weekend. I assume the filter isn't under that round plastic cover on the front top right side of the engine then? I love where BMW puts them up top so easy to get to, guess I was hoping... Love the air suspension and being able to lower it to wash it! My wife had some guy flag her down in the grocery store parking lot today to ask her what it was? When he saw the Porsche crest he couldn't believe it...

i would also like to change the oil on my 2004 cayenne s. i removed the panel beneath the front of the engine. can see the filter right up in front as described. is this the type where i just unscrew the entire thing and replace like all my previous cars? i see where some porsche models have a filter element that is replaced, while the external housing stays. next i see two possibilities for the drain plug. both are allen wrench type. are these the plugs? they both must be removed to drain all the oil? 9 quarts with filter change? will mobil 1, 0-40 wt be ok to use in arizona?
