Anything magic about removing a tiptronic shift knob? I don't see any set screws. I did see a message indicating that the manual shift knob just pulls off; is that true for the tip shift knob as well? (adding a little more carbon to the interior)

Removing:

Lever the locking button A off with a suitable tool or finger. The locking button must be pressed so that the tool can be inserted between the selector lever B and locking button. (The ignition key must be in position 1 before the locking button can be pressed.)

2. Remove compression spring A and pull spring clip B off toward the rear.

3. Pull selector lever up and off.

Installing:

1. Assemble the selector knob with spring clip, compression spring and locking button. Fit conical compression spring with the small diameter facing the guide peg.)

2. Press the complete selector knob onto the shift lever until it bottoms. The spring clip must fully engage in the slot on the selector lever.

3. Check function of locking button.

I recently took my center console apart -- -but it was long enough ago I don't remember how to put it all back together.

Is there a screw somewhere that connects the center console to the shift mechanism -- as my console seems to want to move

around which is messing up the smooth movement of the shifter.

Also I ended up with a small washer that has teeth to it -- almost like a gear washer --- Can't figure out or find in a diagram where

this came from.

the knob also now wants to twist -- or better said it twists too easily -- should I lightly glue this to the shaft -- i.e. strong enough to keep

it from casually rotating -- but not so strong as to never get it back off.

thanks,

Mike

996 426 277 02 Pressure Spring - if the stock is still available.

If not, then you would have to buy the repair kit 000 043 204 57 Repair Kit - US MSRP $222.92

Which way is the spring clip supposed to mount? And does it go on the knob or on the straight bar right above letter 'B'?

Item 2 in the last diagram.

That's already in place. Which way does the other metal piece attach to the silver rod on the shifter knob? These are the pieces I have left.
