I was wondering if I popped the light control module out and replaced it with the one with auto headlamps if that is all I would need.

I've had auto headlight controls for the last twenty years. So I am by habit, forgetting to turn the lights on and also forgetting to turn them off.

Also, does anyone know if this pries out in standard procedure like any other dash parts? And with modular wire connection?

Hi -- the auto headlight feature relies on more than the physical switch -- a light sensor, rain sensor and vehicle speed sensor are all part of what the auto light is based on.

An earlier thread covers this -- and a search on Renntech may help with retrofitting to auto light detail.

Be sure to join Renntech as a contributing member -- you'll be able to download DIY and technical service bulletins -- it's the best money I've spent in support of my Cayenne (2004 S). Loren and folks are great.

For switch removal, from what I recall no tools are necessary, simply line the switch up to the proper point and a firm consistent pull is all it takes.

Edit: Added info.

Sorry, I had done a search but must have used wrong words in the query.

Anyway, I also came to the realization that it is definitely more than the switch alone. I'm sure there has to be a light sensor as well. So the whole conversion would be more than just a switch change. However I would still be curious as to if anyone knows if it has been done or is even possible including a retrofit sensor.

Hi -- give the folks at Sunset Imports a call or send them an email -- they may know if it's possible and if so can sell you the parts. (Renntech members get a deal.)

Hope you can upgrade without too much complexity. Let us know what happens.

ok, here is an update. bought used switch with "auto" setting (they are all the same Audi/Touareg/Polo etc but a lot chepaer than Porsche). 5 min to change and then enable with PIWIS comfort light and coming home function. works now.

next mode is WEBASTO:)

So does this mods activate just the head lights or do all the parks light operate automatically also?

not sure what "all park lights" mean but i think all it does it turns on/off low beam headlights under certain conditions (the way described in manual) and switches them off with or without delay when you lock the car
